About

Bette Midler, a powerhouse entertainer for over five decades, is a true force in the industry. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1945, she began her career on the New York stage, appearing in shows like Fiddler on the Roof and Salvation. It was in the late 1960s, however, that Midler found her signature style with a residency at the Continental Baths, a gay venue where she cultivated a devoted following with her flamboyant performances and comedic flair.

Coining the stage persona "The Divine Miss M," Midler captivated audiences with her strong vocals, sharp wit, and outrageous costumes. This success translated to the recording studio, with her 1972 debut album, The Divine Miss M, going platinum and earning her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Midler's talents extended far beyond music. She transitioned seamlessly to film, receiving critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of a self-destructive rock singer in The Rose (1979). Throughout the 80s and 90s, she continued to act in a variety of films, showcasing her comedic range in Hocus Pocus (1993) and dramatic chops in For the Boys (1991), which garnered her another Oscar nomination.

Midler has never strayed far from her musical roots. She has released numerous successful albums, including the Grammy-winning soundtrack for Beaches (1988). Throughout her career, she has performed sold-out tours worldwide, dazzling audiences with her energy and iconic voice.

More recently, Midler returned to Broadway in triumphant fashion, winning a Tony Award for her starring role in the revival of Hello, Dolly! (2017). Bette Midler remains a cultural icon, an award-winning entertainer, and a true multi-talent.
