Godfrey L. Simmons, Jr. is an award-winning actor, producer, director and playwright. He is Artistic Director for HartBeat Ensemble in Hartford, CT. Godfrey co-founded Civic Ensemble, a regional theatre in Ithaca NY, and was Producing Artist for Off-Broadway’s Epic Theatre Ensemble for four years. As an actor, performances Off-Broadway and Regionally include Fast Blood, My Children, My Africa (Civic), Macbeth, The Winning Side, A Mre Perfect Union, A Hard Heart (Epic); The Old Settler (Primary Stages, Audelco Award), and Betty’s Summer Vacation (Playwrights Horizons) among many others. Also at Epic, Godfrey co-wrote and starred in the Off-Broadway documentary play about the election of President Barack Obama, Dispatches From (A)mended America. Godfrey is a 2012 TCG/Fox Fellow and a lifetime member of Ensemble Studio Theatre.
