Mandy Gonzalez is an American actress and singer, best known for her leading roles on Broadway. She originated the role of Nina Rosario in the Off-Broadway and Broadway productions of the musical In the Heights. In 2010 and 2011, she played Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked. She also played Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway production of Hamilton for a six-year run, from 2016 to 2022.
Gonzalez was born in Santa Clarita, California, and raised in Los Angeles. She is of Mexican and Jewish descent. She attended Saugus High School and then attended the California Institute of the Arts for one year. Gonzalez then worked as a background singer for Bette Midler's Millennium Tour (1999–2000). After that she moved to New York City, where she worked as a coat check attendant while attending open calls.
Gonzalez made her Broadway debut in 2001 in the musical Aida as the standby for Idina Menzel in the role of Princess Amneris. In 2002, she played the role of Sarah in the short-lived Broadway musical Dance of the Vampires. She returned to Aida in 2003, as Amneris, opposite Toni Braxton and Will Chase.
In 2005, Gonzalez originated the role of Nina Rosario in the Off-Broadway production of In the Heights. She reprised the role in the Broadway production of the show, which opened in 2008. She received a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance for her work in In the Heights.
In 2010, Gonzalez replaced Dee Roscioli as Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked. She played the role for over a year.
In 2016, Gonzalez joined the original Broadway cast of Hamilton as Angelica Schuyler. She played the role for six years, departing in 2022.
Gonzalez has also appeared in a number of films and television shows. She has starred in films such as Across the Universe (2007) and Man on a Ledge (2012). She has also had recurring roles on television shows such as Madam Secretary (2014–2015) and Only Murders in the Building (2022).
