Even broad comedies like Book of Mormon, it's not really that style. Honestly, The Play That Goes Wrong kind of feels the closest as far as my brain goes. But no, Operation Mincemeat is stealthily one of the most impressive musicals currently out there, and I'm so excited to get to see it with an audience. Yeah, I'm really excited to see how people are going to react to it, just because it is something that you wouldn't expect to be as fun as it is. You know, for my co-host, Miranda, she's a tough sell on comedies. She's a difficult person to make laugh, but I just know that one is going to be one she's going to really get into, the history side of it.

It's very witty. It's very clever and smart and quick. I'm very excited for it. We got to talk about Water for Elephants, of course, which was in that year that it played at the Tony's, had the best Tony's performance, and then it had a fairly short life on Broadway. So I'm excited, but I'm curious how they're going to transport those acrobatics on a tour. That's going to be the key part, because that was one of the most stunning parts of the show. When I saw it, you're going to the circus, essentially. You're going to see acrobatics and flips and climbing and everything. So I'm very excited, especially with how tight the Fisher can be, but I'm sure they'll make it beautiful and make it work. The puppetry of the show is so beautiful and how they put that elephant together. So I'm really excited for it.

[13:01] Amber Rasho: I got a question for you as someone on the inside. As far as people visiting the two theaters that you run, the Opera House and the Fisher, well, not you personally, but your company runs, which do you think is the easier place to play in? So as a consumer, the Fisher, as an actor, the Opera House is what I've heard. So we do own and operate the Fisher, but we use the Opera House as a rental for the larger productions that simply just cannot fit. So your Lion Kings, your Phantoms, and then we'll have Death Comes Here this year. The Fisher is kind of tricky if you've ever been backstage, where lots of times actors can't just cross the backstage. They'll have to go down, over, and up through the backstage.

And all I just hear is the stairs. Oh, the stairs. So completely understandable when you have maybe 10, 20 seconds to run across to the other side of the stage. But as far as location and parking wise, the Fisher, their consumers love the Fisher. I love the Fisher. Just the comfort of those chairs. It just feels like a home. And going to the Opera House, sometimes I feel like I'm cheating on my favorite spouse. It's just like, oh no, I need to go back to where I'm comfy, where I know where the bathrooms are. Yes. Our offices are in the Fisher building, so it's definitely easy to just go downstairs for a show. But the Opera House is located beautifully right in the middle of downtown, so it is in a great location as well.

But yeah. The only thing that the Fisher needs to be the perfect location is just any restaurants right across the street. Yeah. We do have cuisine on the other side of the building, but yeah, definitely more food options. Because people often ask, hey, can I go and get dinner before? And there's nothing really walking distance that can get tricky. But we do have a couple of shops in the building, which it's a stunning building just going through the Fisher building every day. Fisher building is my favorite place in all of Detroit. I had friends in town, and we just walked the Fisher, because that's just a nice place to be in. But I have taken us well off the track. We got to talk about Death Becomes Her, which I saw in New York last year. Incredible stunt-based show. So much magic happening on stage. What'd you think about it? Or have you seen it?

[15:24] Andrew: I've not seen the show yet. I actually recently saw the movie, so I loved it. It's super cute. It's super fun. I'm very excited for it. Especially, I've seen all the adaptations of the stairs and all the, like you said, the stage aspects of it. So it's going to be cool. It's one of those rare musicals. I think this and Beetlejuice, it is the rare musicals where I'm like, I think this improves on the film in every conceivable way, as far as making a compelling narrative. The movie kind of leaves me a little icky inside, in a way that it's trying to do, where the musical just leaves me feeling joyful, and like I had a blast. It looks stunning. It looks very glitzy and glamorous. I'm very excited to see that one.

If I'm going to ring the bell for one of them, Death Becomes Her is the one to like, girls night out, be girls do crimes, let's do it. I'm looking forward to it. And then here's a little bit of a different one. Oh, Mary, which is a play. All of these have been musicals up to this point, but it is a very broad comedy play. Did you see it while you were in New York?

[16:33] Amber Rasho: I wish. That's the one I'm most excited about actually coming to, because I just heard the most wild and fanatic things about this show. Any rumors on casting yet?

[16:44] Andrew: I haven't heard anything. I know, I'm on pins and needles about that too, because I'm very curious. I mean, they've done such a great job of casting the Broadway Mary, so I'm very excited to see who they're going to put on the road. And Kola Skola, he actually did a speech at our conference the year before. So just listening to him and how witty and funny he is, I'm sure this stage is going to be awesome. And people love plays. They really ask us to bring more plays in. So this is definitely an unconventional play that people are going to see, but I think they're going to enjoy it. I'm going to be interested to the reaction of some of the season pass holders to that one. It's definitely broad, definitely scatological.

Miranda and I saw it with Jink Monsoon and Kumail Nanjiani, and that was certainly a night where it just was like the walls were shaking from the laughter. It was just bleeding out into the street. And I cannot wait for that to happen. But at the Fisher, that's going to be such a great energy.

[18:49] Amber Rasho: Yeah, subscribers will be in for a ride. I like a lot of pearls clenching and everything. So I'm excited for it. I love those nights where it's like, oh, we got an unconventional one. And then I see this woman has bought season tickets for the last 30 years. And I'm just like, time to see how she reacts. I just kind of sit there watching her watch the show.

[19:00] Andrew: Yeah, it's definitely going to be a fun one. I'm looking forward to that. Now we have not full like, well, that is a fantastic lineup. I have some inside baseball, but that's not the end of that lineup. We got a lot more things coming.

[19:23] Amber Rasho: Yeah, we got a couple more like one week, shorter engagement shows that are coming. We're very excited. We'll soon be announcing the return of Six. So the queens are coming back, which I love that show. It's just a fun time. It's a concert, it feels like in a show. So I'm really looking forward to that coming.

[19:42] Andrew: And you get to leave by like, you know, before 10. Like, that's like, such an easy digestible show that like, does not leave you like emotionally exhausted by the end just leaves you thrilled and like going out on a high.

[19:55] Amber Rasho: Yeah, quick in and out 90 minutes. And then you're probably going to listen to the cast album on the way home as well.

[20:00] Andrew: Yes, I mean, with like, I think that this it's like kissing cousins with the kpop demon hunters, which is now taking over the world. And I think like, newer and younger people are going to be coming out for six. And that's fantastic. And that's another one where people are dressing up. When we saw it last time, there was like two different little girls dressing up as different ones of the queen. And I was just that show has touched a generation and that's going to be big.

[20:26] Amber Rasho: Yeah, yeah. Like you said, the younger girls like love it. I had people saying, hey, I came back and saw this four times. Like, it's one of those fun shows that like, you really can see multiple times and still have a good time.

[20:38] Andrew: Now, Amber, before we wrap this up, I do want to ask and I feel like I never get the chance to talk with you that much outside of this context. You're always busy. There's a line behind me coming when we're picking up tickets. We get like five words. What is your favorite musicals? Like, what is your favorite shows? Either ones you had seen through this or on your own world?

[20:58] Amber Rasho: I understood that like my favorite genre of kind of after seeing so many shows, I really like the ones that make you feel something like the sadder shows. Like my personal favorite that I've seen is Ain't Too Proud. And I may be biased because I just love Detroit culture. And I love Motown. And I love the songs. But a couple other I don't mention, like, I absolutely love The Outsiders. I love soft. I love shows that really make you leave thinking about that show. Or if you're doing research, I did so much research after seeing softs. And those are the shows that kind of stick with me. And if a show can make me either cry or feel something, then I recognize that as like a very powerful and great experience.

[22:40] Andrew: I you and I are the same heart like parade is still my number one. Like, I loved parade.

[22:43] Amber Rasho: Yeah. Did it live up to the hype? Because I really built it up in our chat when we talked about it.

[22:50] Andrew: You know, essentially, like thinking about the story, I was like, I'm so curious on how they're gonna do it and how it's gonna look. But just like, I still think about like the court scenes and how they reenacted and it was it was so beautifully well done. So yeah, I understood the hype after I saw it.

So we've been doing a lot of different things rather than just your traditional Broadway, but we're definitely trying to expand on our entertainment here at the Fisher.
