About

Welcome to the very first episode of The Cheese Wheel! Your hosts, Andrew DeWolf, Jess McAnally, and Liz Esten, are kicking things off with a deep dive into a true cult classic: Doug Walker's cinematic opus, Kickassia. This 2010 parody film, brought to life by the Nostalgia Critic and his team, follows their outlandish attempt to take over the one-acre nation of Molossia and transform it into the absurdly named Kickassia.

For Andrew, Jess, and Liz, Kickassia isn't just a movie—it's a nostalgic landmark that defined an era of online content and fandom. In this episode, they'll reminisce about what made this chaotic, no-budget spectacle so special to them, dissect the film's unique brand of humor, and explore why Kickassia still holds a special place in the hearts of fans years later, despite a lot of the creators being less then good people.

Join us on this wild ride down memory lane as we launch The Cheese Wheel and celebrate the madness that is Kickassia. We can't wait for you to hear it!

[0:00] Jesse McAnally: I've wanted this place for a long time, and now that I've got it, I'm not going to let anyone take it away from me.

[0:06] Jesse McAnally: I discovered that the world is full of Cheesy Wheezies, and a lot of those Cheesy Wheezies want what I've got.

[0:12] Jesse McAnally: So if any of them try to take away what I have, I'm not afraid to go down with the ship and take everybody with me.

[0:19] Jesse McAnally: But that's just if one of those Cheesy Wheezies shows up.

[0:23] Jesse McAnally: Or if someone of this beloved nation of mine is a Cheesy Wheezy.

[0:28] Jesse McAnally: What do you say, Andrew DeWolf? Are you not one of those Cheesy Wheezies, are you?

[0:44] Andrew DeWolf: Hello, I'm Andrew DeWolf.

[0:46] Jesse McAnally: And I'm Liz Esten.

[0:49] Liz Esten: And welcome to The Cheese Wheel, a hyper-fixation podcast where our topics are gambled.

[0:55] Jesse McAnally: How are we doing today, guys?

[0:57] Andrew DeWolf: I am so fucking ready.

[0:59] Liz Esten: I'm ready.

[1:00] Jesse McAnally: I have been waiting for this moment for 300 years.

[1:03] Andrew DeWolf: Episodes.

[1:05] Liz Esten: 300 hours, at the very least.

[1:07] Jesse McAnally: Yes.

[1:09] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, we're re-piloting.

[1:11] Jesse McAnally: We're starting something new here, kids.

[1:13] Jesse McAnally: And with this, we get to talk about one of the things I think everyone has picked up has been one of our weird shared hyper-fixations.

[1:21] Jesse McAnally: This is the one time the wheel does not get spun, so to say.

[1:25] Andrew DeWolf: Because, you know, we gotta pilot somewhere.

[1:27] Liz Esten: I guess, is this a film or is this a miniseries?

[1:31] Jesse McAnally: It is an internet sensation.

[1:35] Andrew DeWolf: It's technically 90 minutes if you put all the parts together, so it is a film.

[1:41] Liz Esten: In the same way that Frankenstein is a man if you put all the parts together, this is a film.

[1:46] Jesse McAnally: Yes.

[1:47] Andrew DeWolf: I'm going to argue that it does not have a six-part structure, it has a three-act structure.

[1:54] Liz Esten: Well, if you listen to the audio commentaries, it was supposed to be three acts, but they wanted to recoup more money, so Mike Michaud definitely suggested making it six, which ruins the structure and makes the final part kind of meaningless.

[2:10] Jesse McAnally: They hobbited it, they wickeded it.

[2:12] Andrew DeWolf: I mean, it's done.

[2:15] Jesse McAnally: Well, this week, we are talking about Doug Walker's cinematic starting, uh, Kickassia.

[2:24] Andrew DeWolf: There is a nation called Molossia.

[2:28] Jesse McAnally: A micronation, actually, just a little over an acre of land.

[2:33] Andrew DeWolf: Okay, it's not very big, but it has technically been declared a nation.

[2:37] Liz Esten: It's run by some nutball named Kevin Baugh, who's declared himself the proud president of this land.

[2:44] Jesse McAnally: Now, Molossia may not seem like much, but lord knows I've always wanted to own my own nation, and am willing to do just about anything to get one.

[2:53] Andrew DeWolf: Even, dare I say it, plan a hostile takeover.

[2:58] Jesse McAnally: I'm the Nostalgia Critic, and I get a feeling that none of you are going to have a hard time remembering this.

[3:06] Andrew DeWolf: But it's only an acre of land, what can we do with an acre of land?

[3:09] Liz Esten: What can't we do with an acre of land?

[3:12] Jesse McAnally: Let's just cut to the chase here. I am going to invade you.

[3:16] Andrew DeWolf: I suggest an attack, a full frontal assault by all of us.

[3:19] Liz Esten: Sometimes the best way to deal with a madman is to send in another madman.

[3:25] Jesse McAnally: That was the old order, this is the new order.

[3:29] Andrew DeWolf: This time, there will be no dawn for Molossia.

[3:34] Jesse McAnally: So Kickassia is a film and or miniseries written by Doug Walker, Mike Michaud, and Rob Walker, directed by Doug Walker, based on the machinations of the Walker brothers' minds, for better and for worse.

[3:47] Liz Esten: The six-part miniseries was posted on thatguywitheglasses.com May it rest in peace, starting May 17th, 2010, and posting daily until May 22nd, 2010.

[3:57] Andrew DeWolf: This is 14 years old, and I have never felt older in my life.

[4:02] Jesse McAnally: On IMDb, Kickassia holds a 5.3 star rating out of 10, based on approximately 2,000 reviews.

[4:10] Liz Esten: It has a better rating than Ghostbusters 2016.

[4:13] Andrew DeWolf: A large portion of its ratings, around 21%, have been one stars, and its poor reception is most likely a result of the style of humor that the film employs, its production quality, and its writing.

[4:25] Jesse McAnally: That is not me editorializing, that was from the website.

[4:29] Liz Esten: The film is centered upon the Nostalgia Critic, as played by Doug Walker, and a host of other internet personalities, including the Nostalgia Chick, Lindsay Ellis, Phelous, Phelan Porteous, and the cinema star, Brad Jones, and the rest.

[4:44] Andrew DeWolf: Upon gathering a band of his fellow internet reviewers and personalities, the Nostalgia Critic attempts to conduct a takeover of the one-acre nation of Molossia, and the first step towards total domination over the world.

[4:57] Jesse McAnally: Alrighty. I guess my first question is, to everyone, did you watch this when it came out? Like, were you excited on the daily releases?

[5:05] Andrew DeWolf: Oh, fucking you know it, dude. I was waiting, I was refreshing the page, like, when's the next one? I love this shit, and I watched it multiple times, I won't lie.

[5:19] Liz Esten: Oh, no.

[5:21] Andrew DeWolf: Liz, are you in that same category?

[5:24] Liz Esten: Absolutely not. I entered this weird little Channel Awesome world way too late, I entered in, like, 2013?

[5:35] Andrew DeWolf: He was already rebranded at that point!

[5:38] Liz Esten: I know, he rebranded, so I went back and binged his old stuff, and I skipped Kick-Ass-ia, because it looked like more crap than normal, so I just went to Superbantines.

[5:50] Andrew DeWolf: Man. You made the wrong choice, because you skipped the better movie.

[5:55] Liz Esten: Having seen Kick-Ass-ia now, I was a very dumb middle school high schooler, so, you know, like, I'm very dumb. I'll admit it.

[6:04] Andrew DeWolf: Um, yeah, I get it. Part of me wishes I couldn't be like, oh no, I was not that guy with the glasses-pilled like Liz, but I was totally that guy with the glasses-pilled like Liz, or like Andrew.

[6:21] Jesse McAnally: I was a little disappointed because I just won a Nostalgia Critic Reviews, and I'm like, why are you posting your fucking movie? I'm not what we come here for!

[6:30] Andrew DeWolf: If only he knew that.

[6:33] Liz Esten: This is like proto-demo-real, are we not wrong?

[6:38] Jesse McAnally: I'm gonna disagree, actually. I think that this is something else entirely.

[6:45] Liz Esten: A weird little celebration of an internet culture that is dead.

[6:50] Jesse McAnally: And will stay dead forever.

[6:53] Andrew DeWolf: What this is, is this is weird internet nerd culture pre-Gamergate.

[7:02] Jesse McAnally: Alright, Jess. Alright, Jess. Can we do a rundown? Who's in this, and what did they do?

[7:07] Jesse McAnally: Okay, okay, okay. How about we go round-robin, we each have to find someone.

[7:13] Andrew DeWolf: Quick, quick, alright. Linkara, comics.

[7:17] Liz Esten: Alright, alright. Well, I mean, Nostalgia Critic, he did the nostalgic movies.

[7:21] Andrew DeWolf: Lindsay, nostalgic movies for girls.

[7:24] Liz Esten: Rob Walker, dressed in funny costumes.

[7:28] Andrew DeWolf: Phelous, horror films.

[7:31] Liz Esten: Fuck, fuck, fuck. The shitty horror films?

[7:34] Andrew DeWolf: Bennett the Sage, anime.

[7:37] Liz Esten: Little Miss Gamer cameo, was on the site for a year, then left. Also did the hand puppet of Blue during the Thanksgiving parade that got Rick Rolled.

[7:46] Jesse McAnally: Jess, this is a round-robin.

[7:48] Andrew DeWolf: Bored James, board games.

[7:51] Liz Esten: I forgot about Bored James. Who else is in this goddamn movie?

[7:56] Andrew DeWolf: No Googling, you can't Google!

[7:58] Liz Esten: Oh, Mars Girl, anime?

[8:01] Andrew DeWolf: Yes.

[8:03] Liz Esten: Then we have Angry Joe, video games and movies.

[8:06] Andrew DeWolf: But they're angry.

[8:09] Liz Esten: You're fucked now, aren't you?

[8:12] Andrew DeWolf: Brad Jones, cinema snob.

[8:14] Liz Esten: Pornography.

[8:16] Andrew DeWolf: That guy who's a picture.

[8:18] Liz Esten: I guess he did movies?

[8:20] Andrew DeWolf: 3D Lee?

[8:22] Liz Esten: Yeah, that guy.

[8:24] Andrew DeWolf: Mike Michaud, destroyed an entire website.

[8:28] Liz Esten: 8-Bit Mickey and his friend.

[8:31] Andrew DeWolf: Handsome Tom.

[8:34] Liz Esten: Video games, I'm pretty sure.

[8:36] Andrew DeWolf: Paul Dugan, musicals.

[8:38] Liz Esten: Ah, Jew-Oreo, pass.

[8:44] Andrew DeWolf: That's bad acting.

[8:46] Liz Esten: Get out of the water off-camera.

[8:48] Andrew DeWolf: There's still more, but sure.

[8:51] Liz Esten: So we didn't do Spoonie.

[8:53] Andrew DeWolf: Spoonie, pass as well.

[8:56] Liz Esten: Okay, true.

[8:58] Andrew DeWolf: Don't want to unpack either of those on this comedy podcast.

[9:02] Jesse McAnally: Alright.

[9:04] Andrew DeWolf: There's so many more.

[9:06] Liz Esten: There's so many people. There's a whole section where they just do cameos from smaller people that couldn't make it to the shoot.

[9:13] Andrew DeWolf: People that Doug didn't invite, let's be clear.

[9:15] Liz Esten: And I'm just like, I don't know who that person is. I don't know who that person is. I don't know who that person is. I don't know who that person is.

[9:22] Andrew DeWolf: I kept waiting, like, when's Brad coming?

[9:24] Liz Esten: My favorite is Mike J, because he's always like, I don't give a shit about this, and I'm British.

[9:30] Andrew DeWolf: But they still blew up fucking Filmbrain, but they didn't blow up Mike Javins.

[9:34] Liz Esten: They hate Filmbrain. That's my theory.

[9:36] Andrew DeWolf: That's true, they do hate it.

[9:38] Liz Esten: Let's pause on that one. Mike Javins has wanted to be in these, and one of the big reasons why he left was he was not invited to the 10th anniversary of what they were going to do.

[9:49] Andrew DeWolf: Are you fucking kidding me? He actually wanted to be in this garbage, and they're like, nah, you can't.

[9:56] Liz Esten: Everyone wanted to be in this garbage. They didn't know what it was at the time, and for the time, two days working your ass off, and then also working in different ways that Mike Michelle will steal the money from? Yeah, it seemed like a good idea.

[10:10] Jesse McAnally: Okay, did anyone else watch any of the commentaries or the behind-the-scenes stuff, or was it just me?

[10:16] Liz Esten: I watched the behind-the-scenes vlog, and it made me very uncomfortable.

[10:21] Andrew DeWolf: I watched some of the bloopers, and I watched, I think, a little bit of the behind-the-scenes that you sent, but I did not watch much.

[10:31] Jesse McAnally: Truly, just seems like the worst group of people to spend time with, with respect to them.

[10:36] Liz Esten: But just like how us in our early 20s were probably the worst kind of group to spend time with.

[10:42] Andrew DeWolf: Oh, absolutely. They didn't think this was bigger than it was, you know what I mean?

[10:48] Jesse McAnally: Like, I think of To Boldly Flee, and they're like, oh, they thought they were making something here. Where here, they know what it is, and they know, you know.

[10:57] Andrew DeWolf: And it's got some production value to it. They, like, went to a location.

[11:01] Liz Esten: Is it time for me to throw out a hot take?

[11:04] Jesse McAnally: It's always time for that, baby.

[11:06] Andrew DeWolf: Okay. I kinda like it. Like, I'm just gonna be straight honest.

[11:13] Liz Esten: I kinda like what they did here.

[11:15] Andrew DeWolf: I kinda like the vibes.

[11:17] Liz Esten: I kinda love that it's completely unknown.

[11:21] Andrew DeWolf: I don't know who anyone fucking is except for the main cast.

[11:25] Liz Esten: And then there's people in the main cast, and I'm like, what the fuck is he doing here?

[11:33] Andrew DeWolf: I kinda like it. I don't know. It feels to me like the plot and the whole idea of it, it just reflects onto real life really well.

[11:45] Liz Esten: Because at the time, they had just created this thing that was new.

[11:51] Andrew DeWolf: Like, no one had ever done this before.

[11:53] Liz Esten: No one had ever made, like, a coalition of fucking weird nerds that talk about shit, and then, like, make it into a successful thing.

[12:05] Andrew DeWolf: And them just taking over a country and running it into the ground, it just kind of feels right as a plot for that.

[12:12] Liz Esten: Whereas the other movies just don't. Like, Suburban Nights to Boldly Flee, those just don't feel like this one does.

[12:23] Andrew DeWolf: This one feels raw.

[12:32] Liz Esten: Jess, you got thoughts? You got a response to that one?

[12:37] Jesse McAnally: Okay. This is the first time I've seen Kick-Ass yet. But I will admit, the minute I started it, I had this weird feeling of weird 2000s nostalgia of terrible internet videos that made me laugh for no frickin' reason.

[12:52] Andrew DeWolf: True fact, after I watched this, I went on the YouTube channel it was uploaded to, and watched a bunch of really old, bootleg, Doug Walker Nostalgia Critic videos, just because I was feeling the nostalgia.

[13:04] Liz Esten: For the Nostalgia Critic?

[13:06] Andrew DeWolf: Yes, I was feeling nostalgia for Nostalgia Critic, and I laughed out loud at least once. And I am embarrassed by that fact, frankly.

[13:14] Liz Esten: It brought me back to a place where I watched dumb shit on the internet and I didn't care.

[13:19] Andrew DeWolf: So I don't know if I like it, but I had fun watching it.

[13:25] Liz Esten: To a degree. I think the Lindsay stuff is poorly handled, but everything I did with Lindsay was poorly.

[13:32] Andrew DeWolf: I don't know if I agree or disagree with that. I guess I'm going to have to unpack that later.

[13:39] Liz Esten: But sadly, I want to be contrary to be like, no, this sucks, this is garbage, but it's garbage.

[13:44] Andrew DeWolf: I loved rolling it, you know?

[13:46] Liz Esten: It's trash, but it's earnest trash.

[13:52] Andrew DeWolf: This is them putting their soul out there, and they never do it again.

[13:58] Liz Esten: When they make the other two movies, it is not the same.

[14:01] Andrew DeWolf: They are just doing it to try to do it, I think.

[14:05] Liz Esten: This one, you can tell that they want to cameo all their friends. They want to run around in the desert and play fight.

[14:14] Andrew DeWolf: They want to showcase what if they ran their own society, what each of them would be good at doing and what they would like.

[14:20] Liz Esten: It felt like something. I don't know.

[14:29] Andrew DeWolf: The earnestness is nice.

[14:36] Liz Esten: That being said, I get what Liz is saying about there are two main women in this cast.

[14:43] Andrew DeWolf: Mars girl, I think, is used well and performs well.

[14:47] Liz Esten: I don't know, because Lindsay really chose everything that she because maybe it's because I'm coming in with all the information.

[14:55] Andrew DeWolf: Lindsay chose to do everything she did on screen specifically. I'm like, well, that's her choice. That was how she wanted to be represented.

[15:03] Liz Esten: What did you have issues with, Liz?

[15:06] Liz Esten: I don't know. It's like everyone got kind of a fleshed out joke like Bennett the Sage is the doctor who says oozes make you live because if you're holding an ooze, you don't die.

[15:19] Andrew DeWolf: Everyone has a joke that's memorable and not weird.

[15:23] Liz Esten: Lindsay's joke is she wants to be the president. So she does a Sarah Palin impression to get Doug to back off so she can kill him and become president of Kick-Ass-ia.

[15:35] Andrew DeWolf: And finally, in the past, you've been known as a smart, edgy, young, opinionated woman. But recently you've been labeled an idiotic dumb arse who's trying to play naive and innocent in order to sneak into the president's seat. What's your opinion on that?

[15:50] Liz Esten: This world is full of cruel, cold-hearted people. They don't maintain the same standard of niceness that I try to maintain.

[15:59] Andrew DeWolf: Am I not nice?

[16:00] Liz Esten: Yes, you are very nice.

[16:02] Andrew DeWolf: So why would they say such a thing?

[16:04] Liz Esten: Probably the idiotic dumb arse part I just mentioned.

[16:07] Andrew DeWolf: I would presume that it's because I'm a woman and prejudice is alive and well in this world.

[16:12] Liz Esten: But Ma's God is a woman.

[16:14] Andrew DeWolf: Sure she is, and I'm the tooth fairy.

[16:17] Liz Esten: It feels like an extended Sarah Palin joke.

[16:19] Andrew DeWolf: A key part of the joke is she is the vice president.

[16:22] Liz Esten: Yes.

[16:23] Andrew DeWolf: And at the time, Sarah Palin was notorious for being the vice presidential pick that took over the campaign and became more talked about than John McCain and ruining everything.

[16:37] Liz Esten: So she was kind of like a famous vice president to do.

[16:42] Andrew DeWolf: I see your point there, but I also think that, like, at least Marjorie had the interesting yelling at all the guys and kicking their ass joke.

[16:51] Liz Esten: Her joke is bad Sarah Palin voice.

[16:54] Andrew DeWolf: I think I sort of see what you're saying, but what I think is the problem is it's the only joke that has aged completely horribly.

[17:04] Liz Esten: Yes, that's another part of it. Most of the jokes are just bad or have aged badly in other ways, whereas this is like a specific reference to a thing from 20...

[17:16] Andrew DeWolf: Not even from 2010. 2008.

[17:18] Liz Esten: From 2008. Yeah.

[17:21] Andrew DeWolf: So it was old when they made the joke, and it's even older now.

[17:25] Liz Esten: Yeah, so that's kind of the issue, but I don't think it's like a...

[17:29] Andrew DeWolf: I think that there is a problem with there not being any women in this, but that's mostly because there was no fucking women on that guy with the glasses.

[17:35] Liz Esten: Yeah, that's the problem. Other than the one that he specifically sought after because he needed a nostalgia chick, which in itself is just kind of weird.

[17:47] Andrew DeWolf: It's inherently gross just as an idea. It's like, I need a lady counterpart to make my website better.

[17:54] Liz Esten: It's like, what the fuck? It's so fucking bizarre.

[17:57] Andrew DeWolf: It's so fucked up when you think about it for 10 seconds.

[18:00] Liz Esten: Have you ever watched... Because I was there when the texts were written for that. I remember when that posted.

[18:09] Andrew DeWolf: And the winners were down to Mars Girl, That Chick With The Goggles, and Lindsay.

[18:15] Liz Esten: And he made a joke about them having to do mud wrestling for his pleasure to decide who wins.

[18:21] Andrew DeWolf: And so, the winner of the Nostalgia Chick Contest is...

[18:26] Liz Esten: Holy shit! It's a three-way tie between That Chick With The Goggles, Mars Girl, and Lindsay Ellis!

[18:31] Andrew DeWolf: Applause.

[18:37] Liz Esten: Well done, ladies. Well done. But unfortunately, there can't be three Nostalgia Chicks on this site, so there's only one reasonable way to settle this.

[18:45] Andrew DeWolf: Cat fight!

[18:48] Liz Esten: The three of you will wrestle each other in the official That Guy With The Glasses mud ring, where you will claw and bite at each other repeatedly until the winner rises victoriously to the wet t-shirt ceremony!

[18:58] Andrew DeWolf: Attention does not always mean effectiveness. Especially with this.

[19:01] Liz Esten: But I don't know if having this...

[19:05] Andrew DeWolf: So, when they were writing this, Lindsay's like, so what am I doing in this? And Doug was like, oh, we are either going to have you be trying to kill the president and do that, or we could do a Sarah Palin impression.

[19:15] Liz Esten: And she's like, can I do both? And that was how it ended up being what it is.

[19:23] Andrew DeWolf: Which is a confused bit! I was like, you know, I want to do a bowl!

[19:27] Liz Esten: I mean, it doesn't not make, like, it makes some sense. Like, she's pretending to be dumb so no one suspects that she's doing that.

[19:34] Andrew DeWolf: And it sort of works. Like, it's not, like...

[19:37] Liz Esten: And I think there was a consensus on the website at the time that Lindsay was kind of the smart one.

[19:42] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah. Yeah.

[19:43] Liz Esten: I mean, she was.

[19:45] Andrew DeWolf: Just looking long-term, I think she was the smart one.

[19:48] Liz Esten: Yeah, she was the smart one.

[19:51] Andrew DeWolf: Who was the dumbest one?

[19:52] Liz Esten: Brad's still on the website.

[19:54] Andrew DeWolf: Brad, he's still on the website.

[19:55] Liz Esten: Oh, not Guru Larry?

[19:57] Andrew DeWolf: Oh, I forgot Guru Larry's still on the website.

[20:00] Liz Esten: Guru Larry does make an appearance. He's in the cameo section.

[20:04] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, so is the last angry geek. Yeah.

[20:07] Liz Esten: Oh god, you're pulling out names. You're pulling out these names of people that technically...

[20:11] Andrew DeWolf: Oh, I found a whole list of names, finally. I got everyone's name in a list.

[20:15] Liz Esten: We're not running through the list.

[20:17] Andrew DeWolf: No, we can't do that.

[20:18] Liz Esten: Also, the best part of this list, they list Doug Walker as four separate characters.

[20:23] Andrew DeWolf: I mean, it only gets worse, because he's like the villain of To Boldly Flee, and the main guy, and like another guy.

[20:30] Liz Esten: Also, another thing. He plays the spider guy from his Lost in Space review, which is like...

[20:37] Andrew DeWolf: I'm pretty sure that guy shows up in To Boldly Flee as well.

[20:39] Liz Esten: Yeah, he shows up in a lot of these things, but he's only...

[20:42] Andrew DeWolf: He keeps showing up, despite only being a Lost in Space joke.

[20:46] Liz Esten: He just really, really thinks it's funny when he says, Spiders!

[20:49] Andrew DeWolf: Spikes!

[20:51] Jesse McAnally: Um, do we need to talk about Kevin Baugh? Is it Kevin?

[20:58] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah.

[21:00] Jesse McAnally: Kevin Baugh, yes. Are we talking about Molassia?

[21:04] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, Molassia.

[21:06] Jesse McAnally: He is technically the best actor in this. He's the only one not hamming it up, and his bit is funny consistently.

[21:13] Andrew DeWolf: He is a real guy who lists this on his website as a canonical event, even to this day.

[21:21] Liz Esten: Fucking weird man.

[21:23] Jesse McAnally: So, I need to ask. Did anyone do any research into Molassia? Is this a real fucking place that is actually a country?

[21:32] Andrew DeWolf: Yes, it is, kind of.

[21:34] Jesse McAnally: The kind of there is important.

[21:37] Andrew DeWolf: Is it a country, or does he say it's a country, but it's basically not?

[21:41] Liz Esten: There's like a technicality of some sort.

[21:44] Andrew DeWolf: It's a self-declared country, you know?

[21:47] Jesse McAnally: Is that just something anyone can do?

[21:50] Andrew DeWolf: I guess. Can we claim any part of New York?

[21:54] Jesse McAnally: Claim the cheese wheel land?

[21:56] Andrew DeWolf: We can't. Doug Walker already did that.

[21:59] Jesse McAnally: I guess it's time to point out. If you go to the general government information on the official website of the Republic of Molassia, you will have Kevin Baugh, the president of Molassia, in his usual garb, but then we also have his chief of staff, which includes...

[22:07] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, sure. We have Fritz von Baugh, the minister of making things orderly, who does appear in the movie.

[22:13] Jesse McAnally: This is the one that does make an appearance. Great choice, by the way, because it only gets worse.

[22:18] Andrew DeWolf: It's getting worse, y'all. We have Paddy Obaugh, the minister of making things disorderly.

[22:23] Jesse McAnally: I didn't describe. Fritz von Baugh looks like a German scholar or something like that.

[22:31] Andrew DeWolf: Monocle.

[22:55] Jesse McAnally: And a big mustache. Paddy Obaugh looks like he is from a rough-and-tough bar in Scotland or something.

[23:05] Andrew DeWolf: He looks like a leprechaun.

[23:07] Jesse McAnally: Yeah, Ireland. He's got sort of big sideburns and a bowtie.

[23:13] Andrew DeWolf: And then we get into the real shit. Then we take a left turn into, oh no! We have Ahmed Al-Ban, the minister of sand, rocks, and dust storms, who looks like a Middle Eastern man, down to what looks like face makeup of some kind to darken one's skin.

[23:38] Jesse McAnally: Yes, and to clarify, this is all Kevin Baugh in different outfits?

[23:43] Andrew DeWolf: Is that called a turban he has on, or what is that?

[23:47] Jesse McAnally: That's not a turban. I don't know what it's called, but it's not a turban.

[23:50] Andrew DeWolf: I'm not sure what it's called. It's totally racist and what Jeff Dunham would make a terrorist look like.

[23:58] Jesse McAnally: We go back to somewhat more reasonable with Angus McBaw, who is just the minister of frugality, and he's just a Scottish.

[24:07] Andrew DeWolf: Looks like he's going golfing.

[24:10] Jesse McAnally: But then we come back to it. We have Juan de la Bar, the minister of ethnic food, who looks to be wearing a poncho with a want-to-be sombrero, although I don't think you could get a real sombrero.

[24:27] Andrew DeWolf: Okay, I gotta point out, he has changed very little from his Ahmed Al-Ban outfit. He just removed the beard and put on a sombrero.

[24:34] Jesse McAnally: Okay, I gotta point out, he has changed very little from his Ahmed Al-Ban outfit. He just removed the beard and put on a sombrero.

[24:40] Andrew DeWolf: He has a little poncho, too.

[24:43] Jesse McAnally: I think that's like a blanket.

[24:46] Andrew DeWolf: A blanket? Whatever it is. That's minimum effort.

[24:51] Jesse McAnally: I get what he's doing, but he probably shouldn't have done the skin darkening treatment.

[24:58] Andrew DeWolf: I think that's a bad idea. That was a bad decision on his part.

[25:02] Jesse McAnally: Says you and the president of Canada's PR firm.

[25:06] Andrew DeWolf: Also, saying minister of ethnic food and putting a picture of yourself dressed in a Mexican stereotype with your face darkened? Not a great look. Sorry.

[25:19] Jesse McAnally: But this has nothing to do with the movie, because Doug Walker was smart enough to tell him to not include those particular characters.

[25:26] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, I don't think we need those ones, but all the rest are good.

[25:29] Jesse McAnally: The only one who makes an appearance is the Fritz guy, who looks like the German banker or something.

[25:41] Andrew DeWolf: I don't get this guy. This guy makes no sense to me. What's the bit?

[25:46] Liz Esten: Before we continue, I just want to point out one part of the history of Molossia.

[25:52] Andrew DeWolf: Yes, please.

[25:53] Liz Esten: The Dead Dog War of 1999.

[25:56] Andrew DeWolf: Oh, yeah? It's unclear to me what it actually is, but there's a statue on the nation of Molossia to commemorate it.

[26:03] Jesse McAnally: Is this like a tribute to his dead dog, or did he have a Michael Vick situation going on?

[26:09] Andrew DeWolf: I think it's just a tribute to his dead dog, but it's listed as the Dead Dog War.

[26:15] Liz Esten: Yeah. Anyway.

[26:17] Andrew DeWolf: Wait, wait. I gotta read this. This is wild. Listen to this.

[26:22] Andrew DeWolf: On the evening of the 3rd of July, 1999, covert forces from the United States crossed the Molossian frontier without permission and buried a dead dog in sovereign Molossian territory. The peace-loving Molossian government responded to this dastardly assault, initially with negotiation, to attempt to avoid all-out war. Negotiations failed, however, as the putrid corpse was not removed. Therefore, the Molossian army was deployed to deal with the underhand threat to our sovereignty. Siege was laid against our enemy using our secret weapon, the ceaseless chatter of a hyperactive 13-year-old boy. After two weeks of conflict, the siege resulted in the capitalization of the enemies of Molossia. The dead dog, now considerably more decomposed than before the war, was removed.

Sometime later, reparations were made to Molossia in the form of wood garbage can holder. Today, the Dead Dog War battlefield and the new grave of the dead dog just over the now-fenced Molossian frontier stand as a mute reminder of the horrors of war and man's inhumanity to man.

[27:19] Jesse McAnally: Fucking what? This website's nutty.

[27:23] Andrew DeWolf: I think this guy is, he's like a serial half-joker, you know? It's a half-joke. He's sort of joking, but also he's really doing it, so is it really a joke, you know?

[27:37] Liz Esten: And I commend him for his commitment to the bit. Actually creating your own country, that's commitment to the bit. Good job, man.

[27:52] Andrew DeWolf: Apparently they're at war with East Germany right now, which, that's impressive.

[27:55] Jesse McAnally: I guess it's like a time travel war.

[27:58] Andrew DeWolf: So that's, you know, you can go buy war bonds if you want. I wouldn't recommend it, but I think this is his way of e-begging.

[28:06] Liz Esten: If you want a fun time, just go to Molossia.org. It's a lot, and it's a lot to look at.

[28:12] Andrew DeWolf: You know what? If you're in Reno, go visit Molossia. Fuck it.

[28:16] Jesse McAnally: Maybe we should go visit Molossia.

[28:18] Andrew DeWolf: You know what? Go fund me. We need $20,000 to go visit Molossia.

[28:23] Liz Esten: We need $20,000 every year to keep this YouTube page going.

[28:27] Andrew DeWolf: And if you don't give us $20,000 a year, I'm gonna threaten you.

[28:30] Jesse McAnally: Alright, speaking of threats, how about we compare our opinions to those of the real critics over on Letterboxd.com. It's time for Previews! The Letterboxd Game.

[28:39] Jesse McAnally: This is a game where Liz and Andrew go head-to-head, and I read real Letterboxd reviews, and they have to guess, based on the review alone, whether it's a 1 star or 5 star.

[28:46] Andrew DeWolf: I am ready.

[28:54] Jesse McAnally: Okay. I haven't watched this film.

[28:57] Andrew DeWolf: Well, if you haven't seen it, you don't know how bad it is. So I'm gonna go with 5 stars.

[29:02] Jesse McAnally: That is incorrect. That was a 1. You lost.

[29:06] Andrew DeWolf: I gave it my best shot.

[29:08] Jesse McAnally: Liz. Yes.

[29:11] Jesse McAnally: Why does the Nevada desert look like Vegas?

[29:14] Liz Esten: 5 stars.

[29:16] Jesse McAnally: That is correct!

[29:18] Andrew DeWolf: Why would it look like Vegas? What?

[29:21] Liz Esten: Isn't it? Yeah, it's the point where Vegas is.

[29:24] Andrew DeWolf: That's where Vegas is located.

[29:26] Jesse McAnally: Oh, is it in the movie?

[29:28] Andrew DeWolf: No, that's the Doug Walker meme where he asks, why does it look like Vegas? To Hercules.

[29:33] Liz Esten: Nothing about it makes sense. It's sort of like the Mad Libs of Disney films.

[29:37] Andrew DeWolf: The musical accompaniment is gonna be gospel. Okay.

[29:40] Liz Esten: The designer of the movie is gonna be Scarfay, the guy who did The Wall. Okay.

[29:45] Andrew DeWolf: The look and tone of the movie is going to be Las Vegas.

[29:48] Jesse McAnally: I... What?

[29:51] Andrew DeWolf: This started a record-breaking one-hour standing ovation when it premiered at Cannes.

[29:56] Liz Esten: 5 stars. I mean, that's record-breaking.

[29:59] Jesse McAnally: That is correct!

[30:00] Andrew DeWolf: Yeesh. It's fun. One star. That is correct, Andrew! Yes? You know it smelled crazy in that hotel room, big dog. Oh my god, I was thinking that. Have you ever been to a convention where there's a bunch of those dudes? It can stink. And if you get them all in a tight room like that, oh my god. My brother went to a convention once, and bumped into Brad Jones and just had lunch with him, and uh, yeah, that's a weird thing of those early 2000s days. Did they watch porn together? I don't know. Did they watch porn? He did just get a really up-close face selfie with him and Brad Jones, like, way too close to each other's faces, is what I remember of that selfie. Okay. Alright. For the stinky hotel room, that is getting a... that's gonna get a one star, I think. That's gonna get a one.

[31:01] Liz Esten: That's a five!

[31:02] Andrew DeWolf: Liz! Damn. Yes? You know, people who shit on this movie just don't get it. Yeah, it's not objectively good if you put it through the meaningless criteria, but hey, I laughed in most spots it wanted me to. Most spots, uh... Most of the spots it wanted me to.

[31:18] Jess McAnally: They're spittin', they're spittin'.

[31:21] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, I feel like you're tricking me, so I'm gonna go with one.

[31:25] Liz Esten: That is correct!

[31:26] Andrew DeWolf: Yep? 1.5 speed is better than 1.5 speed.

[31:31] Jess McAnally: 1.5 speed is better... it's... does it say it's better at 1.5 speed?

[31:38] Andrew DeWolf: 1.5x better than 1.5x speed. Okay. So they're trying to get through it as quickly as possible, but they're also saying it's better, so... geez, that really could be either. I'm gonna go... one star.

[31:49] Liz Esten: That is correct! Ooh! Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, never fails. Liz, you are winning this no matter what, uh, because you have...

[32:03] Andrew DeWolf: That's a first. But here is the last one. Holy shit! You know? Five.

[32:13] Jess McAnally: That is correct! And that has been the Letterboxd Game! This makes up for the only game I've ever won recently is being music. I mean, that one's an easy one.

[32:21] Andrew DeWolf: Yay! This show ain't that different, right? You're halfway through an episode, and you're still laughing and enjoying all the good spots! You're laughing at all the places where you're supposed to?

[32:30] Jess McAnally: Yeah, exactly where you're supposed to! Much like Cadetia! Let's go into a mid-show, and then let's talk about this some more!

[32:49] Andrew DeWolf: Hey guys! Sorry to interrupt and email the show, but we've got a show out of you! Today's show is brought to you by the extremely kind donations by our donors over at Patreon! Andrew, what's Patreon?

[32:57] Jess McAnally: Oh man, Patreon is where you can go if you'd like to support us and get some extra content from the show! We still have a lot of our old Musicals with Cheese stuff up on there, but I'm sure we'll be getting some new content for the new rebrand as well. And of course, there is new rewards, which I'm sure you, Jess, knows more about than I do.

[33:14] Andrew DeWolf: Yes! Currently, you have already taken part in these rewards because you guys are now a much more active part about what we cover on this show! In fact, your first Patreon request from Toriana Fraser has been selected and voted upon, so our fifth episode-ish, I think around sixth episode, will be on Pride and Prejudice, the 2005 film which I am so excited to talk about and is such a good choice! I'm grateful to each and every one of you for sticking by us. Liz and I are currently working on ways to make it even more worthwhile to you guys. Maybe watch nights for our big, big shows and all the things that we're covering would be a really interesting thing to do, and just kind of ways to get you more involved and make that Discord even more fun.

[34:03] Andrew DeWolf: Our current patrons are, and thank you guys for sticking around through the rebrand, I really appreciate it, Jessestampede, Ewan Cassidy, Monica Thoreau, Brent Black, Nathaniel Stacy Coombe, Mary Lou Choquette, Jon Van Alls, Russ Walker, Musical Hell, Emily Gracie, Jen AC, Scoot and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, nothing is certain except Beth and taxes, Jon Van Alls, Vesbian, Chai Teacup, Chris Marcotte, Kiji Marie Anastasio, Trevi Joseph, RJ Noriega, Julia McClennan, Joe, Bjorn Hermans, Toriana Frazier, Sammy, The Adequate Amount, Jacobson, Kaylee Blazier, Villainous Mist, The Omega Geek, Paige Pearson, Maddie Wargill, Elisa Erdman, Anna Los Catova, Evan Ball, Zachary Torres, Mara Marasso, Mara, Lisa L., Possessed Washing Machine, Nick Roten, Puffy Boy, Sidney Hicks, Billy Clifton, Gold Plated Kikimora, Aria Ardy, Emma Carabalda, JRL Studios, and Alexandra Dahm and BT McMedemy. They all give us some money that helps us keep the lights on at the show, help keep Liz and Andrew fed and bred and enjoying our time here.

[35:10] Jess McAnally: And if you all wouldn't mind, um, since we are kind of starting from scratch a little bit, please leave us reviews and likes, let your friends know about us. If you're enjoying it so far, let us know. We love feedback so much, it makes us so happy to know that some folks are listening. And hey, even if you don't like the show, leave a review anyways. Um, how about we get back to it and talk about Doug Walker's impact?

[35:30] Andrew DeWolf: The world's impression of Doug Walker has changed quite a bit since 2010, 14 years ago when this first premiered. In fact, Doug Walker even used to have hair back then. He has since gone the full Lex Luthor look to really embrace the supervillain, uh, vibe he's giving off lately. So, the thing with the cultural impact of Kick-Ass-ia, right, is there's a lot to talk about with the cultural impact of Doug Walker and things like that. Although I think a lot of that impact doesn't come from this movie. It comes from To Boldly Flee, Demo Reel, Pop Shot Show, Game Man, Game Man Show, Hot Man, Cinema Snob, um, and of course the Nostalgia Critic rebrand, which is essentially Demo Reel 2. So a lot of that impact is not from Kick-Ass-ia, but it kind of all starts here.

Um, and I feel like the real cultural impact of this movie and what I would want to talk about is less so Doug Walker himself and more that guy with the glasses. Because the impact of that guy with the glasses I think is still being felt now. We have had people on our show from that guy with the glasses. We interact with them all the time. There are people that are still popular that appeared in this fucking movie, you know? Um, what's your thoughts?

[37:14] Jess McAnally: Bro, yes, that is valid and important and all these things you're saying. But it all stems, the website was a great cultural breathing ground. Is that the best way? Um, people, I don't know. One of the best things about that guy with the glasses.com were the forums. Less the people on there and all that.

[37:36] Andrew DeWolf: Um, not us.

[37:38] Jess McAnally: Yes. Um, I don't think I've ever told my that guy with the glasses story about how I was kind of almost on Channel Awesome.

[37:46] Andrew DeWolf: You may have mentioned it, but honestly, you can go ahead and tell it again. There's not gonna be a better time.

[37:51] Jess McAnally: So, um, in 2014, uh, just a few short years after Kickassia premiered, um, they had an open call for new content creators on their platform. And I was doing, um, a little known show called XX Stress Rolled XX, where I covered musical theater content.

[38:08] Andrew DeWolf: Ever.

[38:11] Jess McAnally: What a name.

[38:12] Andrew DeWolf: What a name, man.

[38:13] Jess McAnally: What a name, man. Where'd you come up with that?

[38:17] Andrew DeWolf: Explain your thought process. What does the X, what do they stand for?

[38:20] Jess McAnally: Well, I wanted Jess World, but that was already taken. So I was like, how do I get around that?

[38:26] Andrew DeWolf: Put a number in it.

[38:29] Jess McAnally: No.

[38:30] Andrew DeWolf: That wasn't a thing at the time.

[38:31] Jess McAnally: I guess.

[38:32] Andrew DeWolf: X's were where it was at.

[38:34] Jess McAnally: Fine. I watched your videos in high school, man.

[38:38] Andrew DeWolf: It's weird now. Now we're like email buddies.

[38:40] Jess McAnally: Yeah, now we're like friends.

[38:42] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, I would, I've had, yeah, either way, not important.

[38:47] Jess McAnally: So I was like, you know what? I've got as much of a chance as anyone else. Why don't I put my name into the hat? Thinking nothing of it, truly. Because I, I don't know. I, I was kind of, I was about to go to college. I felt like, okay, I'm kind of done with this.

[39:03] Andrew DeWolf: Um, but then I made it through one round.

[39:06] Jess McAnally: Um, and I was like, oh, oh, I don't know.

[39:09] Andrew DeWolf: And I think it was Rob Walker. Rob Walker sent out most of the emails in regards to this.

[39:15] Jess McAnally: And he was on the forums, I think, with it as well.

[39:18] Andrew DeWolf: Oh God, I cringe.

[39:20] Jess McAnally: Um, okay.

[39:22] Andrew DeWolf: I found the email. Should I share it?

[39:25] Jess McAnally: God.

[39:25] Andrew DeWolf: Oh my God, yes. It has some PPI in it.

[39:28] Jess McAnally: Um, so I'm like, oh, do I want to show this? Like it has my-

[39:32] Andrew DeWolf: Don't show the screen, but read off the bits that you think are okay to speak.

[39:35] Jess McAnally: Okay, so do you want to know the three videos I submitted to Rob Walker to be on That Guy with the Glasses?

[39:42] Andrew DeWolf: I'd like to know.

[39:43] Jess McAnally: None of them exist anymore. The first one was Wicked. The second one was Jekyll and Hyde. And the third one was Evita.

[39:50] Andrew DeWolf: Oh no, this is even earlier.

[39:52] Jess McAnally: Oh no, that's so bad.

[39:54] Andrew DeWolf: Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.

[39:56] Jess McAnally: All right, no.

[39:59] Andrew DeWolf: I submitted my last five years review and the 14 most romantic showtunes. That was it.

[40:06] Jess McAnally: They said, hey, first off, thank you for your submission. Second, thank you for your patience. We received over 1,200 submissions. We took weeks upon weeks to go through. Ultimately, that meant we only had a small percent that could make it through. You were in the maybe folder and made it in the top 20% of everyone.

[40:25] Andrew DeWolf: So I was in the top 20%.

[40:28] Jess McAnally: You were in the maybe folder, though.

[40:29] Andrew DeWolf: I was, I was. Along with a lot of other people that have been on this show, because at the time, we all got the emails about the same time.

[40:37] Jess McAnally: So Christy from Musical Hell also was in the maybe folder and got the identical email. But then you got other people who were a little more famous, a little known that were not in the maybe folder.

[40:45] Andrew DeWolf: They were a little too honest about it and didn't think anyone would compare notes.

[40:55] Jess McAnally: So I'm like, they wouldn't just have said that if they didn't say that to everyone.

[41:00] Andrew DeWolf: So you, you had almost made it. You were that close.

[41:05] Jess McAnally: The question is, would I have walked out without everyone else? Or would I have been a guru really? Or would I have even made it on that long?

[41:13] Andrew DeWolf: I think you would have been one of the people that, like, you post for like two weeks, realize, oh my God, this is way too much.

[41:18] Jess McAnally: This is a fucking nightmare.

[41:20] Andrew DeWolf: And then you just leave.

[41:21] Jess McAnally: Yeah, I feel like, because apparently, Mike Michaud would just kick you off if you didn't post every two weeks.

[41:28] Andrew DeWolf: Oh yeah, yeah, because they had so many people submitting to get on, because if this was this was the original, like, I'm going to become an influencer. Like you get onto that guy with the glasses and you're like, oh my God, I made it. Now I have the dream job where I just make videos yelling at movies all day and never have to work this.

[41:50] Jess McAnally: That was what the dream was. They were selling the dream and Kick-Assia sold that dream to us that you can you too can be a weird goober that joins with this group of friends and just, you know, kick back and review movies.

[42:08] Andrew DeWolf: And it turns out that behind the scenes, that wasn't what it was.

[42:12] Jess McAnally: But, but, you know, Kick-Assia is still here. It's still selling that dream.

[42:18] Andrew DeWolf: What could have been?

[42:20] Jess McAnally: Um, should we bring up Mike Michaud?

[42:27] Andrew DeWolf: Because I already have.

[42:30] Jess McAnally: We don't need to talk about it.

[42:32] Andrew DeWolf: I listened to every commentary for Kick-Assia that exists.

[42:36] Jess McAnally: I did.

[42:36] Andrew DeWolf: I took the time. I put the effort in. And my God, Mike Michaud, he and J.D. Vance are very alike, that they are just a charisma black hole.

[42:48] Jess McAnally: Fucking damn it. Because Bargov, who plays Mati and a bunch of other things, and him did a commentary, which is like two people that no one cares about doing a commentary on a movie even less people care about.

[43:02] Andrew DeWolf: The Mati thing has always been the strangest part of all of these movies to me. They must really fucking love that gag because he doesn't he show up in more than just Kick-Assia?

[43:13] Jess McAnally: Like he's in Suburban Nights as well.

[43:15] Andrew DeWolf: And I'm pretty sure he even makes it into To Boldly Flee.

[43:18] Jess McAnally: Yes, but To Boldly Flee is a very special case because he had been he left the site at that point in anger.

[43:26] Andrew DeWolf: So they have someone else doing an impression of him.

[43:29] Jess McAnally: Oh my God.

[43:30] Andrew DeWolf: My God.

[43:32] Jess McAnally: And we use stills of him because it had not ended well.

[43:36] Andrew DeWolf: There is a history of that guy with the glasses contributors leaving under suspicious circumstances or unwell.

[43:45] Jess McAnally: In the documentary, we see the famous Mike Ellis, who I believe sexually assaulted someone and was kicked off the site.

[43:53] Andrew DeWolf: Yes, that's what happened.

[43:55] Jess McAnally: Who is Mike Ellis?

[43:56] Andrew DeWolf: He was just the guy that posted things to the site. And then he started stalking a girl.

[44:01] Jess McAnally: Oh, okay.

[44:02] Andrew DeWolf: Also, Kick-Assia was based on a concept by Mike Michaud.

[44:06] Jess McAnally: Of course it was.

[44:07] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, that's what it's listed in the credits. So he's actually very important to this film.

[44:12] Jess McAnally: But he had nothing to say in the commentary, except like it was really hard getting everyone to Reno and getting all the planes booked.

[44:23] Andrew DeWolf: And OK, in Doug's commentary, he actually had things to say.

[44:27] Jess McAnally: And it was like talking about things.

[44:29] Andrew DeWolf: Rob's commentary is like, I fucking hate Doug. He's a hack. I despise him. I hurt myself on this set, and I worked through it.

[44:35] Jess McAnally: And like, truly, no one.

[44:40] Andrew DeWolf: Why would you release these publicly to the world?

[44:43] Jess McAnally: I don't know.

[44:50] Andrew DeWolf: Did you watch any of the any of the commentaries where they treat it as if they made an actual movie?

[44:55] Jess McAnally: They did not do. Doug kind of does.

[44:56] Andrew DeWolf: But like, you know, in the way that's like, we're kind of goofing.

[45:01] Jess McAnally: That was more the other two.

[45:03] Andrew DeWolf: This one wasn't that yet.

[45:04] Jess McAnally: Yeah, no, they knew they were just kind of having fun.

[45:07] Andrew DeWolf: And this is a gift for the fans.

[45:09] Jess McAnally: Rob was kind of like, you know, we did our job too well. People cared about the plot when really it should have just been a bunch of goofs.

[45:15] Andrew DeWolf: And we didn't think anyone would care about the plot.

[45:18] Jess McAnally: So we just tried not to.

[45:20] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, but they made the rest so plot heavy.

[45:22] Jess McAnally: They do, though. You're right. We skipped over some of the stuff that I really love.

[45:27] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah.

[45:28] Jess McAnally: Like?

[45:28] Andrew DeWolf: Okay, let me just throw out.

[45:31] Jess McAnally: Andrew, can I make a quick correction for you?

[45:33] Andrew DeWolf: Get out your favorite things.

[45:35] Jess McAnally: Yeah, just a quick correction. Holly, Mike Ellis sexually harassed Holly Brown for many years.

[45:42] Andrew DeWolf: It's like that's that's what happened with Mike Ellis.

[45:44] Jess McAnally: To be clear, this was not one of my favorite things.

[45:47] Andrew DeWolf: I don't I don't think I was going to make a correction.

[45:50] Jess McAnally: So we don't get sued. Mike Ellis wouldn't invite him onto my film set.

[45:56] Andrew DeWolf: Anyway, Andrew, tell me your favorite things.

[45:58] Andrew DeWolf: Okay, I love that the pacing of the opening is is so good. Act one is beautifully paced where they just did. Okay, I don't know if you remember, but I feel like the other two movies.

[46:11] Jess McAnally: It's so fucking slow and they drag everything out because they have to make it like four hours long.

[46:15] Andrew DeWolf: This one, it opens up there in Molassia. Doug Walker knocks on his door and says, I'm going to invade you. And that's perfect.

[46:25] Jess McAnally: Perfect.

[46:26] Andrew DeWolf: It's actually flawless. I'm not kidding. That is the absolute perfect way to open the movie.

[46:32] Jess McAnally: You say that, but then we get a really long phone call where they round up everybody.

[46:37] Andrew DeWolf: Absolutely.

[46:38] Jess McAnally: They ruin it immediately afterwards.

[46:41] Andrew DeWolf: But that opening is flawless. There is no better way to open the movie unless they like fix the white balance like ever.

[46:51] Jess McAnally: That would be kind of nice.

[46:53] Andrew DeWolf: Or, you know, get the get the shots and focus.

[46:56] Jess McAnally: Okay, I don't mean to bring up the commentary so much, but Rob Walker is just spending the entire time shitting on Doug and not even where he's like, oh, I wouldn't have shot it this way. I could tell it was a Doug shot.

[47:09] Andrew DeWolf: Well, I like to have something interesting out of the camera and Doug just says, just hold it and point it.

[47:16] Jess McAnally: And, uh, dude, you said that they hate each other and I can totally fucking see it.

[47:23] Andrew DeWolf: Actually, you think you think Rob is jealous because he thinks that he's more talented than Doug, but Doug gets all the attention.

[47:30] Jess McAnally: Yes, but I'm not even sure he's wrong.

[47:32] Andrew DeWolf: Is the problem like he might be like point five percent more talented than Doug.

[47:43] Jess McAnally: But and also it's just like really cruel stuff.

[47:47] Andrew DeWolf: It's just and they didn't do a commentary together, which might have been interesting.

[47:52] Jess McAnally: They had to do it separately.

[47:55] Andrew DeWolf: They couldn't they couldn't speak in the same room together after the things he said.

[47:59] Jess McAnally: Why, how, what did they do?

[48:02] Andrew DeWolf: That's three different commentaries just from the that guy with the glasses, people.

[48:07] Jess McAnally: Well, then you also have the Linkara, Obscurus, Lupa, uh, Nash, and one other, uh, Phelous commentary where Lupa and Nash were not in this movie.

[48:15] Andrew DeWolf: So, so Phelous in the movie is such a major character.

[48:27] Jess McAnally: And for some reason, I just remember Phelous not be coming onto the scene until like a little later.

[48:32] Andrew DeWolf: But I guess he was on.

[48:33] Jess McAnally: He was one of the early ones.

[48:35] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah.

[48:36] Jess McAnally: Um, what can we?

[48:39] Andrew DeWolf: Okay, cultural impact.

[48:41] Jess McAnally: We're going to go back to it.

[48:42] Andrew DeWolf: Kind of that guy with the glasses.

[48:45] Jess McAnally: What the fuck is this?

[48:47] Andrew DeWolf: Like they're playing characters, but like what is the character?

[48:51] Jess McAnally: Who is Phelous?

[48:52] Andrew DeWolf: What's the gag?

[48:54] Jess McAnally: He talks weird. Is that the joke?

[48:57] Andrew DeWolf: I don't want to be mean.

[49:01] Jess McAnally: I don't want to be mean to these people because honestly, I do.

[49:04] Andrew DeWolf: Allison's husband, motherfucker.

[49:05] Jess McAnally: I know.

[49:06] Andrew DeWolf: I know.

[49:07] Jess McAnally: And honestly, I do. Like I watched all of this shit. I love this shit, but it's so, it's such a weird thing that this existed.

[49:14] Andrew DeWolf: I can't.

[49:16] Jess McAnally: It's a weird thing that we exist.

[49:17] Andrew DeWolf: I can't talk shit because I did it.

[49:20] Jess McAnally: Like we were there.

[49:21] Andrew DeWolf: We were a part of this.

[49:23] Jess McAnally: I was almost on this.

[49:25] Andrew DeWolf: I can't talk shit, but at the same time, like what the fuck was this website?

[49:40] Andrew DeWolf: During the documentary, I had a really mean thought.

[49:43] Jess McAnally: What's that?

[49:43] Andrew DeWolf: And I didn't mean this to be mean, but it was like, oh, it's so nice. These people all found each other because I don't know if they'd find anyone else.

[49:51] Jess McAnally: Oh, okay.

[49:55] Andrew DeWolf: That is me.

[49:55] Jess McAnally: Never mind.

[49:56] Andrew DeWolf: I'm cutting that.

[49:58] Jess McAnally: I was literally like, oh, look at this group of weirdos. Glad they all have each other.

[50:04] Andrew DeWolf: You know what, though? Is it mean or is it kind of what the movie's like selling to us?

[50:11] Jess McAnally: Like this is, that's the idea. This is like, they're the found family of weird, dumb, cruel nerds that become dictators.

[50:22] Andrew DeWolf: You die here or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

[50:28] Jess McAnally: How many of the gags were written by the, that guy with the glasses team without, without any consultation to the people?

[50:37] Andrew DeWolf: Like, does this match your character at all?

[50:39] Jess McAnally: Like, I didn't, you know.

[50:41] Andrew DeWolf: According to the Not So Awesome document, they almost never, it seemed like they never watched their stuff and had no idea about their ongoing lore, except strangely Linkara's.

[51:01] Jess McAnally: Like Linkara's, I didn't really watch their stuff, so I don't have anything to say.

[51:04] Andrew DeWolf: And they threw in like a lot of references to it.

[51:07] Jess McAnally: And it gets worse by the time we get to Boldly Flee.

[51:11] Andrew DeWolf: Well, the strange thing is there isn't any references to it here, really.

[51:12] Jess McAnally: That's a lie.

[51:12] Andrew DeWolf: There is the throwaway, like, I'm sad I'm working with Dr. Insano. He's my archenemy.

[51:16] Jess McAnally: And I'm like, wait.

[51:18] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, but Dr. Insano is like spoony lore.

[51:21] Jess McAnally: Linkara has a spaceship. Like, you'd think that he would leverage that when trying to take over Molassia.

[51:26] Andrew DeWolf: Well, I haven't seen Atop the Fourth Wall the movie yet, so maybe it'll all make sense when we get there.

[51:32] Jess McAnally: I'm sorry, I know too much.

[51:34] Andrew DeWolf: I can't, this is a topic that I can't discuss this way.

[51:37] Jess McAnally: It's too, it's too much.

[51:39] Andrew DeWolf: There's too much lore that Andrew has just cranking around in his fucking noggin.

[51:44] Jess McAnally: Like, I, it's in my brain.

[51:46] Andrew DeWolf: You know how people say that they have brain rot when you're talking, like, skibbity-riz or whatever?

[51:54] Jess McAnally: I've got that 2010s brain rot.

[51:59] Andrew DeWolf: I mean, I am, of course, seeing big-lipped alligator moments all over the place.

[52:06] Jess McAnally: I find myself a little embarrassed that I enjoyed this as much as I did when I was younger.

[52:13] Andrew DeWolf: You don't need to be embarrassed, Jess.

[52:16] Jess McAnally: We are here, you know?

[52:18] Andrew DeWolf: We've made it here.

[52:19] Jess McAnally: We've gotten this far.

[52:20] Andrew DeWolf: We only live one time, and this is part of our past, you know?

[52:24] Jess McAnally: Why be embarrassed?

[52:25] Andrew DeWolf: What's the point?

[52:26] Jess McAnally: The point is, I don't know, I worry that in any situation I might be the film brain.

[52:34] Andrew DeWolf: Do you know how offended I would be?

[52:39] Jess McAnally: Nothing against Matthew himself, who seems lovely.

[52:44] Andrew DeWolf: But if any one of my friends wrote me the way that they write him for these movies, I would wonder if I was ever their friend.

[52:52] Andrew DeWolf: Okay, wait, wait, wait.

[52:53] Jess McAnally: Liz, Liz, final segment.

[52:55] Andrew DeWolf: We're gonna do a final segment, I think.

[52:56] Liz Esten: Hi, I'm here.

[52:57] Andrew DeWolf: I've been here the whole time.

[53:00] Jess McAnally: Yeah, yeah.

[53:02] Liz Esten: Okay, if I was Doug and I was writing you.

[53:11] Andrew DeWolf: Hmm.

[53:14] Liz Esten: We made it onto the site somehow. We were in our early 20s at the time. It happened, you know?

[53:18] Andrew DeWolf: I imagine Andrew makes lore videos about Doug Walker's videos just for fun, like right after they come out.

[53:24] Jess McAnally: That's too early for that.

[53:25] Andrew DeWolf: I couldn't do that.

[53:26] Jess McAnally: That's true. Did you watch the Gordie review?

[53:29] Andrew DeWolf: Oh my god, he is totally on it this week.

[53:32] Jess McAnally: Although review reviewing was a thing at the time because everyone thought they were so clever to think of that.

[53:37] Andrew DeWolf: But none of them ever made it onto the site.

[53:41] Jess McAnally: Review reviewing was just bullying.

[53:44] Andrew DeWolf: It's what we're doing right now.

[53:47] Jess McAnally: Not to mention reviewer dibs, which was a thing at the time.

[53:51] Andrew DeWolf: Reviewer dibs need to come back.

[53:53] Jess McAnally: That's classic.

[53:55] Andrew DeWolf: Well, then technically Doug has reviewer dibs over us because he already reviewed Kick-Ass-ia like six years ago.

[54:00] Jess McAnally: He only did that so no one else would review it, okay?

[54:03] Andrew DeWolf: That's true.

[54:05] Jess McAnally: That's not real reviewer dibs.

[54:08] Andrew DeWolf: Real reviewer dibs is when it's the wrong type of media, you're not allowed to touch it.

[54:12] Jess McAnally: That's true.

[54:12] Andrew DeWolf: Anyway, back to the question.

[54:13] Jess McAnally: So if I'm writing Kick-Ass-ia, what type of characters are you?

[54:17] Andrew DeWolf: Okay, Jess, you're not the film brain. You are the Ben at the Sage. You have a really solid joke and you like always bring it up and you're just always there and you're making good laughs.

[54:30] Jess McAnally: Cool. His joke is absolutely that he has like a vinyl record of some musical that he's constantly-

[54:37] Andrew DeWolf: Some Sondheim shit.

[54:38] Jess McAnally: He's like, this is the new national anthem of the Kick-Ass-ia. And then he puts it on the vinyl and he's like, I can't get it to play, but you know, this is really good.

[54:45] Andrew DeWolf: He was trying to get people to like listen to Passion.

[54:50] Jess McAnally: He's like, Jess, shut the fuck up about Passion.

[54:53] Andrew DeWolf: It's really good, guys!

[54:57] Jess McAnally: That's the joke. And he gets it like one time and then they cut away from him and never talk about it again.

[55:01] Andrew DeWolf: And I think Andrew would probably be the Linkara of the group.

[55:08] Jess McAnally: Oh, jeez.

[55:10] Andrew DeWolf: Mostly because that's an insult.

[55:12] Jess McAnally: Mostly you just like figure out how to solve it because everyone's an idiot. So you're the smart one of the group.

[55:18] Andrew DeWolf: I'm not, though.

[55:19] Jess McAnally: I see where you're leaning, Liz.

[55:21] Andrew DeWolf: I think what you're thinking, and I agree with it, is in the writer's sense of, hey, you seem down for most things. Let's just give him all the lines.

[55:27] Jess McAnally: Like, I feel like Linkara got done dirty in this one, honestly.

[55:36] Andrew DeWolf: Like, I feel like none of his lore plays in very well.

[55:39] Jess McAnally: Yeah, but does anyone know Linkara's lore back in 2009 off the top of their head?

[55:45] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, he's got a magic gun.

[55:47] Jess McAnally: Where did he purchase that?

[55:47] Andrew DeWolf: That's like the main thing.

[55:49] Jess McAnally: Linkara!

[56:02] Andrew DeWolf: Linkara!

[56:05] Jess McAnally: He doesn't use it.

[56:07] Andrew DeWolf: There wasn't even one scene where he's like, hey, I've got a magic gun. Let's kill this guy.

[56:13] Jess McAnally: Let's kill him.

[56:15] Andrew DeWolf: That would be the Linkara thing to do.

[56:17] Jess McAnally: I feel like they just didn't write his character.

[56:19] Andrew DeWolf: I don't know.

[56:20] Jess McAnally: And I would be the drill sergeant.

[56:22] Andrew DeWolf: Yes, and you'd nail it.

[56:24] Jess McAnally: Yes.

[56:25] Andrew DeWolf: Or you'd probably be like, oh, I can't make it that weekend.

[56:28] Jess McAnally: And you'd be the little mischiever who can't appear.

[56:30] Andrew DeWolf: Only appeared via phone call.

[56:31] Jess McAnally: I would be the awkward green screen.

[56:33] Andrew DeWolf: Can't we not be like stuck in like a horror movie or something?

[56:36] Jess McAnally: Like, oh no, I'm stuck in Freddyland or some shit.

[56:39] Andrew DeWolf: Oh no!

[56:41] Jess McAnally: Alright, can we go before we wrap up and give our cheese rating?

[56:45] Andrew DeWolf: Here's a really test of our cringability. Can we each go around and tell us one thing that made us laugh?

[56:52] Jess McAnally: Uh, yeah, I think I can try to think of one.

[56:55] Andrew DeWolf: I've got one. Ready.

[56:57] Jess McAnally: You go first.

[56:58] Andrew DeWolf: And it makes me feel bad that I laughed at it. But I laughed really hard.

[57:06] Andrew DeWolf: It was such a throwaway line. But it was when they build up Dr. Insano as this bad thing throughout. And also Doug told Spoonie to act like a rape victim. And that was his literal direction. And I'm like, ew.

[57:18] Jess McAnally: That is gross.

[57:19] Andrew DeWolf: That's disgusting. I just got to put these fun facts out there somewhere. But either way, just Doug turns to him. He's like, oh, Spoonie, you gave into the darkness.

[57:28] Jess McAnally: That's nice.

[57:30] Andrew DeWolf: I don't know why. That line got me.

[57:37] Jess McAnally: Oh, hey, you gave into the madness. That's awesome.

[57:42] Andrew DeWolf: That is good.

[57:42] Jess McAnally: That is good.

[57:43] Andrew DeWolf: Okay.

[57:45] Jess McAnally: What about you, Andrew?

[57:46] Andrew DeWolf: It's really dumb. But honestly, the gag where they all run full speed at the guy. And then the guy pulls out a gun. And they all immediately turn around and run away is really funny.

[57:56] Andrew DeWolf: I don't know. I laughed pretty hard at that one. I was just like, that's just the dumbest fucking gag. And they kind of nailed it.

[58:03] Jess McAnally: Okay.

[58:06] Liz Esten: Honestly, none of it made me laugh out loud.

[58:13] Andrew DeWolf: That's fair.

[58:14] Liz Esten: That's fine. It was all just kind of a low giggle of how stupid this whole fucking movie is. But I also just got home from work. And I work really early in the morning. So my brain was probably rotted at the time. So I'm like, hey, this is kind of funny. I don't know why it's funny, but it is.

[58:28] Andrew DeWolf: So yeah.

[58:32] Jess McAnally: Fair enough. Fair enough.

[58:34] Andrew DeWolf: I'll give a second one then.

[58:35] Jess McAnally: Yeah, give a second one for me.

[58:37] Andrew DeWolf: I love the general vibe that they're all too stupid to function. And I think the best example is when they're doing the interview. And the guy made the flag. I think it was Cinema Snob made the flag. And they couldn't figure out how to take the old flag off the flagpole. So they just have a guy standing on the roof at all times holding it.

[58:58] Jess McAnally: Put respect on Handsome Tom's name.

[59:00] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, that's Handsome Tom.

[59:02] Jess McAnally: Wait, also, wait, I thought of something I actually thought was funny when Bennett the Sage became the Surgeon General.

[59:07] Andrew DeWolf: Because I don't know fucking why that made me laugh.

[59:09] Jess McAnally: It just made no sense.

[59:11] Andrew DeWolf: There, that's there. That's my joke.

[59:14] Jess McAnally: I guess everyone else had to.

[59:15] Andrew DeWolf: I want to give one more.

[59:17] Jess McAnally: Okay.

[59:19] Andrew DeWolf: I giggled when he said, I'll get you a hotel room. But it's only one singular hotel room that they all have to share.

[59:25] Jess McAnally: I don't know why that bit got me chuckling.

[59:28] Andrew DeWolf: They totally ruined that one, though, by having somebody go like, well, that was expected.

[59:35] Jess McAnally: It was Phelous.

[59:36] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, it was Phelous.

[59:40] Jess McAnally: You might as well have the Marvel thing where they're like, well, that just happened.

[59:46] Andrew DeWolf: Let's go get some shawarma.

[59:47] Jess McAnally: I would probably rather watch this than the Avengers.

[59:51] Andrew DeWolf: Dude, this is the original Avengers.

[59:54] Jess McAnally: This does predate it by two years, so.

[59:58] Andrew DeWolf: Three years.

[59:59] Jess McAnally: Three years.

[1:00:00] Andrew DeWolf: 2012 was The Avengers. This is 2009, was it? Oh, no, 2010. Oh, it's 2010? My bad. May 2010, baby!

[1:00:09] Jess McAnally: Speaking of May 2010, what is our overall thoughts and our Cheese ratings?

[1:00:14] Liz Esten: Um, I can go first if you want.

[1:00:26] Jess McAnally: Sure. Sure. Um, I really... there is a complicated history of Doug Walker. I think we all know that, right? Like, Doug Walker is a complicated figure. There's a lot to say. I wanted to discuss the movie more than that, though, but obviously there is a ton of baggage that comes with all of this, so... And we didn't bring it up. Um, like, Doug Walker as a figure has hurt a lot of people that we know personally, like, that we've interacted with and had, and I don't want to confuse us having a weird nostalgia for this period of the internet for us claiming, like, Doug Walker's a good person. This movie isn't even available on his YouTube page anymore. I think this is pretty cleanly something we can talk about guilt-free.

Other people have gone through the pain of painstakingly restoring this into HD at 60 frames a second for some reason and just putting it on the archive.org. So, I feel like it is a shared, weird, emotional thing for everyone else. Um, so, I really can only give it the Cheese rating of The New Orleans Muffaletta. It's a sandwich that was created in 1906 by the Central Grocery in the French Quarter. It is made up of olive salad, ham, cheese, salami, and pepperoni tucked inside the focaccia bread. Great for St. Expeditious Day, which is from the Molossian kitchen. Molossia's national cuisine is simple and tasty and rather eclectic. Several dishes have been borrowed from other cultures and adopted into our own.

The ingredients and spices for these dishes are generally found in many Molossian homes and restaurants. I'm sorry, but this is like the most- Andrew, it looks like your fucking diet every time- like the Molossian kitchen. Oh my god. Oh my god. Molossia. Alright, we're moving to Molossia, dude. Yeah, we're moving to Molossia. Kevin, Bob, take us in, but you can't put- get away from the face paints. We're taking away the makeup cabinet, okay? I wonder what the ethnic food minister thinks of all this food Molossia has to offer. You know what? I'll take over the- what was it? Whatever departments are the racist ones. Jesus Christ. You know what? There's a non-zero chance you'll listen to this. Jess just straight up is like, I'll do the black face. Hang on.

[1:03:00] Andrew DeWolf: No, that's not what I said! That's not what I said! I'll take over so it's not racist!

[1:03:08] Jess McAnally: Okay. Andrew, you're next.

[1:03:15] Andrew DeWolf: I am gonna give this- well, a quick overview. I think I've made my thoughts pretty clear. You love it, you want to marry it, the wedding next week. It is dog shit. Do not get me wrong, this is a terrible movie. It is horribly shot. There is not a single frame of this movie that looks good. It's bad, but there's like a weird- it captures the essence of an early internet phenomenon better than anything else, and I appreciate it for that. That being said, all the people that made it are- well, not all the people. Yeah, yeah, fuck you. Many of the people behind it- I don't want to loop in all the actors, you know? Yeah, they don't want to be involved in this. But a lot of the people that are involved with creating this project are kind of trash people, and the actual product itself is kind of shit.

But that being said, it's like, I have a weird nostalgia for it. I think, historically, it has value in a weird way. You know, it might be better if we remember it so you guys don't have to. Oh, we said it! We said it! Yeah, maybe that's what I'm trying to throw down. As far as an actual cheese rating, I'm gonna give it a grilled cheese made with one of those shredded cheese bags, where they're pre-shredded, and if you eat the cheese, it's not really good quality. But, you know, it's got a bunch of different flavors of cheese, like a four cheese cheese shred bag, and you put that on top of the sandwich, and then you make the grilled cheese using that, which never gives you a really good quality grilled cheese sandwich.

But it's still edible, and it still works. Did Doug Walker write this fucking monologue?! Basically, what I'm trying to say is, you know, I liked it. And I forget what he says at the end of his wall review. I'm trying to remember. Go die. I'm gonna end this with such a simple vagueness, because his movie ended with such an empty vagueness. I don't fucking know. Fuck Doug Walker. Liz, what did you think? Fuck Doug Walker.

[1:05:18] Liz Esten: I'm sorry, Andrew just described the way I make grilled cheese, and I feel really red to filth. You gotta buy yourself some cheddar cheese slices. Yeah, my dad only buys white cheddar I don't like in slices, so I don't like to use it in a grilled cheese. It's too sharp for me, so I have to use the shredded Mexican bullshit. Anyway, I haven't eaten grilled cheese in over six months, so who cares? That's a good point. Yeah, who cares? Anyway, this is a first timer for me, so I had no preset nostalgia, but it reminded me back when I watched crappy internet videos with really bad critiques in it. Like, back when I didn't understand how to talk about movies in a way that made me a human. More like a CinemaSins kind of way, I guess you could use a more modern vernacular.

Doug Walker's ruined all of media. Truthfully, Doug Walker has ruined a lot of modern media criticism, and I think we need to talk about that more, because a lot of us are still in Doug Walker brain when we talk about cinema and movies and TV shows, and we need to think more on it before we immediately start critiquing something. I don't know if you can pin that on Doug Walker when the angry video game nerd is right there and he did it first.

[1:06:30] Andrew DeWolf: That's true, but Doug Walker did it for movies, so that's my point.

[1:06:34] Jess McAnally: Oh, and movies are art. I see how it is.

[1:06:37] Liz Esten: And video games aren't. And video games can't be.

[1:06:40] Andrew DeWolf: Nintendo 64 games are also kind of art, okay?

[1:06:43] Liz Esten: Kind of art.

[1:06:44] Jess McAnally: Kind of.

[1:06:45] Liz Esten: When did Roger Ebert and Roger Ebert show up here? What happened? Anyway, I enjoyed this quite a bit more than I thought I would. It's very much a time capsule of the 2010s internet in a way that I find delightful, but it's also kind of bad. The shots aren't in focus. There's a single camera. They shot this with a single camera.

[1:07:10] Andrew DeWolf: I was surprised they had that much.

[1:07:11] Liz Esten: Yeah, me too. It looks like crap. The best actor is not even part of the crew of the movie that we want to watch, and it's just kind of weird in spots, but it has a good opening, and some of the jokes are solid, and Santa Christ is in it. We didn't talk about that, but Santa Christ is in it.

[1:07:31] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah.

[1:07:33] Liz Esten: Oh my god.

[1:07:33] Andrew DeWolf: The Santa Christ theme.

[1:07:35] Liz Esten: Santa Christ, Santa Christ, we all love Santa Christ. He is Santa and Jesus, god damn it, Santa Christ.

[1:07:45] Andrew DeWolf: Santa Christ.

[1:07:46] Liz Esten: Santa Christ.

[1:07:47] Andrew DeWolf: We all love Santa Christ.

[1:07:50] Liz Esten: He is Santa and Jesus.

[1:07:53] Andrew DeWolf: And we all love Santa Christ. But yeah, I'm going to give Kick-Ass-y a Kraft mac and cheese with a little bit of that shredded Mexican bullshit on top to make it a little better, but still nostalgic.

[1:08:10] Andrew DeWolf: Damn, you are like the ethnic food minister over here.

[1:08:12] Liz Esten: I was, yes.

[1:08:14] Andrew DeWolf: Get that paint off your face, Liz.

[1:08:16] Liz Esten: But I did not use any paint. I did not do that. Do not accuse me of that. I know my camera isn't on, but don't accuse me of that.

[1:08:21] Jess McAnally: Did we do anything with this rebrand?

[1:08:24] Andrew DeWolf: I don't know. Tell us if you like it.

[1:08:26] Liz Esten: Yeah, let us know what you did. Tell us if it's your cup of tea or not.

[1:08:32] Andrew DeWolf: Alright. To answer everyone's questions, yes, our Twitter handle is changing names. Just did it while doing this episode.

[1:08:41] Jess McAnally: So thank you guys for listening. Please let us know how you're liking the show. Shoot us an email or a Twitter DM at cheesewheelcast on Twitter, at cheesewheelcast. Our Patreon will be changing, but currently it is still musicalswithcheese. We're on Instagram at something or other. All these things will change.

[1:09:00] Andrew DeWolf: Email us at musicaltheaterlives at gmail.com, because no matter what, no matter what our title is, musical theater lives.

[1:09:06] Jess McAnally: Our keeper of the cheese is Juliet Antonio. Our title card, which I think is beautiful, was designed by JRL Studios. Thank you for doing that. I think that's a really cool addition to our little collection. Thank you to the Broadway Podcast Network for having us on the platform, for not kicking us off, for giving Doug Walker even the slightest monochrome of credit.

[1:09:26] Andrew DeWolf: Jess, you're writing us a brand new theme song, aren't you?

[1:09:29] Jess McAnally: I am. It's definitely done by the time this episode came out.

[1:09:34] Andrew DeWolf: Our theme song was written by Andrew DeWolf, and he is also editing this show.

[1:09:39] Liz Esten: Alright. Do you have any socials you want to promote out there, or do you want to stay mysterious and private?

[1:09:45] Andrew DeWolf: No, sure. I'm on Twitter, at Elizabeth Esten. I don't tweet much, but you can... I might tweet pretty much, but you know, whatever. I'm also on YouTube, Elizabeth Esten. You can watch my older work. I also edit. I used to, at one point, back in the 1800s, edit videos for the Musicals with Cheese podcast before life happened, so watch those on YouTube. They're very good.

[1:10:07] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, they're good. Our camera app sounds great.

[1:10:11] Liz Esten: Yeah, it got a boost thanks to, like, Discourse, so appreciate it. Thanks, Eddie Redmayne. And yeah, I'm on Instagram, but it's private, so good luck getting past.

[1:10:20] Andrew DeWolf: Fuck you, people!

[1:10:21] Liz Esten: Good luck getting past the wall.

[1:10:24] Andrew DeWolf: That's what Doug Walker said, too, like, the day he posted the wall review. Good luck getting past the wall.

[1:10:28] Jess McAnally: How are we going to do it, Rob? I hate you, Doug.

[1:10:32] Andrew DeWolf: Probably, yeah.

[1:10:33] Liz Esten: Well, they could try a ladder, or perhaps a stepstool would be needed.

[1:10:36] Andrew DeWolf: Or they could sing the SpongeBob SquarePants theme.

[1:10:39] Liz Esten: Oh my gosh, all these ideas are so good.

[1:10:42] Andrew DeWolf: Yeah, we should recreate the wall for no reason.

[1:10:47] Liz Esten: I agree, but should we do the rest of the Channel Awesome films? Let us know, because, you know, we're-

[1:10:53] Andrew DeWolf: Should we review Nostalgia Critics' The Wall?

[1:10:56] Liz Esten: We should.

[1:10:56] Andrew DeWolf: It depends how much we piss off all the people that used to work at Channel Awesome.

[1:11:00] Jess McAnally: That's true. You know what? Maybe Spoonie will send us an email.

[1:11:05] Liz Esten: Oh no!

[1:11:07] Andrew DeWolf: You guys don't even understand.

[1:11:09] Liz Esten: I won't read it, no.

[1:11:13] Andrew DeWolf: You guys want to know what we're covering next week?

[1:11:16] Jess McAnally: Yeah?

[1:11:16] Andrew DeWolf: Time to pull out the wheel, Andrew! Bring it in here!

[1:11:20] Liz Esten: Alright. I don't actually have the wheel with me. You guys want to do it?

[1:11:24] Jess McAnally: I do, I do, I do.

[1:11:26] Andrew DeWolf: Do you have a wheel?

[1:11:27] Liz Esten: Yeah, yeah, it's right here. Just right here.

[1:11:31] Andrew DeWolf: Alright, are we ready?

[1:11:33] Jess McAnally: Yes.

[1:11:34] Andrew DeWolf: Spin the wheel, spin the wheel, spin the wheel.

[1:11:38] Liz Esten: Add some intense music here.

[1:11:39] Andrew DeWolf: Alright, here we go!

[1:11:47] Andrew DeWolf: Alright, alright, alright, alright. Next week!

[1:11:49] Liz Esten: Oh, this is one of mine!

[1:11:53] Andrew DeWolf: Next week, we are covering Chapel Roan, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, the album. Get hyped, because this is exciting. So that is our first Wheel Spin, and we're gonna do an album, which is new but old. I feel like this is honestly more of our territory than Kickassia is, honestly.

[1:12:14] Jess McAnally: Musicals with Cheese, episode 10.

[1:12:18] Andrew DeWolf: Alright, if you're excited for that, I am too. We'll see you next time on the Cheese Wheel Podcast!

[1:12:32] Liz Esten: Santa Christ, Santa Christ, we all love Santa Christ.

[1:12:38] Andrew DeWolf: He is Santa and Jesus. Your shit, it's Santa Christ.
