[19:37] Pierre Marais: And that, like, the beauty of music theater and theater and art is that it can exist in multiple forms and be brilliant in both.

[19:43] Pierre Marais: And it's been a beautiful reminder that, like, good art is good art irrespective of how it's put together, you know?

[19:52] Pierre Marais: And everybody, a million people can see it and they can all see something different and relate to it in a different way.

[22:30] LJ Benet: This is a legacy of love for us, this project, for several years. And so, starting out as actors, this is certainly the first of this foray into the producing side. And surrounding yourself with a team, when you look around at all these happy people that are so thrilled, some of them making their Broadway debuts, that's so exciting. It's nice to kind of actually sit back and kind of take it in, which usually you can't do when you're an actor, because you're trying to get your photo, so then you can go prepare for the show. So, you know, we can just chill out tonight. I think what's cool is that we set out to make a show that we would want to go see, and that we'd want to take our kids to go see, and our parents to come see. And the fact that we've created that, and 1,700 people at the Palace are responding the way they are every night, is kind of crazy, and overwhelming in a really great way. So, we couldn't be happier. We're super excited.

[23:13] Shoshana Bean: Yeah, I agree. Just seeing young people in the audience and how they're responding, and I've said this several times, but how they can see themselves on the stage in these characters, it's so rewarding to watch people come back over and over again. People have come 8, 10, 12 times during previews. I've seen it on TikTok, and they were just yelling from the rooftops that this is the show to see. And so that feels wonderful, to just see people respond so positively to something that we've worked so hard on.

[23:38] Robert Bannon: That's awesome. How excited are you for opening night with The Lost Boys?

[23:42] Shoshana Bean: I'm pumped. On Broadway! I'm pumped. It's crazy. We've been birthing. It feels like a birth. I'm like our baby! It's amazing. It's amazing. Yeah, it's thrilling.

[23:53] Robert Bannon: And this cast, the creative, and to be included, how does it feel to be part of this?

[23:59] Shoshana Bean: I don't know. I know. I don't think anything will top this. It feels like a pinnacle. I'm like, oh God. The only thing I keep saying about the cast, besides being super talented and awesome, is they are so game. They will say yes. They will participate. They are on board to do this, and that doesn't always happen. And there's a lot of stuff going on.

[24:20] LJ Benet: Yeah, and it's very dark sometimes, and there's shadows, and scenery moving everywhere. So it's been really cool to be all collaborating together, like across the whole theater.

[24:34] Shoshana Bean: This huge theater.

We're probably wrong, but, you know, we tried. We just tried to write things that felt true and real and moving to us, and that felt authentic to us. And that has always worked for us, and has always moved people. And that's what we're hoping for, to move people, make them laugh, have a good time, maybe make them cry, scare a few people. But, yeah, we only know how to do us. So that's what we did. We did us.

[26:04] Robert Bannon: Do you have a favorite song from this?

[26:07] Gabriel Mann: Gabe's got a great one.

[26:08] Kyler England: No, but I reject that question out of hand. Here's why. A musical is not about a song. A musical has songs in it, but a show is about the entire thing put together, and it's hard to take a single song out of context of the show itself. So, I have songs that... I think we each have songs where we like a melody better, or we like a particular lyric better, but ultimately it all sort of exists as one thing, and I think it needs to be experienced in that way.

[26:47] Gabriel Mann: So that's my non-answer to your question.

[26:50] Kyler England: It's like a concept album. It's about the album.

[26:52] Robert Bannon: I love that. You should go buy the album, because it's phenomenal.

[29:08] Christopher Cree Grant: Yeah. It's like it practically almost is a musical in the movie in the first place. There's just no song.

[29:14] Christopher Cree Grant: And I mean, talk about the music from this. I mean, what's been...

[29:17] Lauren Yalengo Grant: It's outstanding.

[29:18] Christopher Cree Grant: It's so beautiful.

[29:19] Lauren Yalengo Grant: Yeah, it's incredible. And not just like great music, but like great music for theater, which is like not a given. And it's not like anyone can write that for character and for story. It's like really emotional and like threads through the whole narrative. It's amazing.

[29:34] Christopher Cree Grant: And that I think that people can relate to. I think, I mean, yes, it's vampires, but people, it's family, it's friends. It's a lot of different things love, you know?

[29:42] Lauren Yalengo Grant: I agree. A hundred percent. You know, there's so many creative conversations we've had that are about like, well, the vampires and you know, we need to get back to the vampire story. And I'm like, I want more time with the family story. It's so, that's the thing that is like so moving to me is this mother and her sons. And I like cry at it every night.

[30:00] Christopher Cree Grant: Yeah.

[30:12] Robert Bannon: Where did the inspiration come? Like, Lost Boys, let's make it a musical. How did that come to be?

[30:18] Chris Hoke: That did not come from us. That came from our producers, you know? And so they had the, they've been trying to do it for 25 years. And there were some, obviously 25 years of getting there. But then eventually they came to us and said, would you write the book for us? So yes. But I knew the film growing up.

[30:37] David Hornsby: Right. Yes.

[30:38] Chris Hoke: I love it. I have the shirt. So I was like, I have to do that tonight.

[30:41] David Hornsby: I had never seen the film before when I first got a call about it.

[30:48] Chris Hoke: And I, which he lampooned me for. And then we watched the film. He was in New York. I was in LA. I watched the film with Chris on speakerphone. Because he was very adamant that I had to watch it right away. Because he's like, this could be a great musical. You have to watch this. And so we watched it. And by the end, I was like, all right, let's take a stab at trying to get this job. And to his credit, he didn't hear much of it. Because I was like, oh my God, watch this part. Oh my God, look at that. That's Corey Haim. Do you know Corey Haim? Oh my God.

[31:19] David Hornsby: Yeah.

[31:20] Chris Hoke: You know.

[31:21] David Hornsby: Yeah.

[31:22] Chris Hoke: No. I mean, I think it's just someone, you know, an 80s baby. Like, it is such an iconic film. And now to have it on Broadway with all these wonderful new elements for a Broadway musical that everyone's very excited about. I mean, the buzz is amazing.

[31:34] David Hornsby: Excellent. We've got Michael Arden. We've got Dane. The set and scale of the show is pretty incredible. And you don't see it as much these days. I think that's surprising audiences. I think it's, you know, it's an accessible musical that has a lot of surprising humor. You know, I certainly responded to that and the heart of it. So with, you know, Shoshana and LJ and Ali and Maria, like, these guys can sing unbelievably. And it really elevates, you know, anything that impales the comparison. I mean, anything that we've done impales the comparison, elevates the material. And I just feel lucky to be a part of it. And it's not just about vampires. It's love. It's family. It's heartache. It's a little scary. It's all of that wrapped into one. What more could you ask for?

[32:18] Chris Hoke: Yeah, I mean, I think that was very important for us to not make it, and very important for Michael Arden as well, that it's not about vampires. You know, and that, so we're very proud. And, you know, sometimes it's tough to, because you've got, you know, a lot of miles to feed. And, you know, a lot of people love the movie and whatnot. So to still make them love, you know, what we have from the movie, but give them just a little bit more that makes it a musical, you know, was a challenge, yeah.

[33:15] Robert Bannon: Oh, exactly. Now, obviously you have the film to work off of, but where did you get other inspiration from for this design?

[33:19] Dane Laffrey: Well, you know, designers have to look a lot of different places to find something, because ultimately we're always, unlike in a film where you're, you know, they've shot the film on a particular, in the Santa Cruz boardwalk, which has been an amazing reference point for us. But ultimately, we're abstracting all of those things. We're pulling everything away from it and really just presenting things in what is fundamentally an incredibly elemental way. So we have to look in a lot of different directions.

There were a handful of things in the movie that when we first sat with the producer, we were like, are we going to do this right? And it was one that was like, we're definitely doing that because it's narratively critical. We were like, well, okay, that's quite a mountain to climb, but it was worth doing for sure. The cast is extraordinary, and they do the craziest stuff in the show. It's just awesome.

[35:47] Alex Winter: Opening night, Broadway, The Lost Boys! I mean, look, it's crazy. What year did we shoot this?

[35:53] Alex Winter: 86, 87, right?

[35:55] Robert Bannon: 2026, I mean.

[35:57] Alex Winter: It's kind of crazy. It's amazing, and it's such a stellar production. From director, producers, cast—everyone is top, top, top.

[36:07] Robert Bannon: So that's crazy too.

[36:09] Alex Winter: But it's great, and I can't wait. I just can't wait to see it. I have friends in the show, and I purposely have not learned anything. I don't want to spoil it. I want to go and experience it.

[36:20] Robert Bannon: But I mean, they're doing some stuff that Broadway has not seen before.

[36:23] Alex Winter: No, I know. It's exciting.

[36:25] Alex Winter: I met with those songwriters. We were at a premiere last year when I was doing the play, and I immediately realized they were the right people to do it. They had a great way in, so I'm really excited to hear the music. I'm such a fan.

[36:41] Alex Winter: It's just amazing, and waiting for the joy. I mean, you and Keanu—we had fun.

[36:46] Robert Bannon: Yeah, we were very tired, but we had fun.

[37:52] Robert Bannon: So Lost Boys on Broadway musical. How excited? I mean, Moulin Rouge for you was wonderful, and now you're going to support some friends.

[38:02] Shoshana Bean: Yes! I'm friends with Shoshana Bean, and I cannot wait to see her. I just remember when she came onto the project and how excited all of us were that it was going to be her. I just know I'm going to be inspired and excited, and it's going to be a roller coaster of emotion. I haven't seen the movie, so I'm going to be fully fresh when I walk in.

[38:25] Robert Bannon: I love that! I think that's so great. Anything new and upcoming you can share for you?

[38:29] Shoshana Bean: I'm actually taking over for Lea Michele in Chess, so I'm really excited about that. Thank you! I start rehearsal next month, and my first night is June 23rd. So get your tickets! I'll be in for 12 weeks.

This is something that Broadway really needs, I think, because it's so different, and they bring a lot of, I want to say, more grandiose elements.

[41:08] Robert Bannon: Yes! Something unexpected!

[41:10] Danny Pino: Yeah, something you haven't seen before, but that is still kind of familiar.

[41:14] Robert Bannon: Yes, exactly! And the music—I mean, The Rescues! We got to talk to them. I love that music! I mean, the harmony is incredible, and it's so atmospheric and emotional. So I'm looking forward to seeing how it all integrates.

I'm just happy to support the work because they've been working really hard on the show. It's a new musical, and they've really built it. I think over the past seven weeks, they've been making active changes. That is hard work. People don't always put in the work daily.

[41:55] Robert Bannon: So I'm excited to see the changes because I was here a couple of weeks ago.

[42:01] Douglas: We haven't seen it yet, so we're hoping in the next couple of weeks to come.
