Anoushka Lucas is a singer, songwriter, actor and theatre composer. Raised in London, Anoushka spoke French before she spoke English, and has a degree in Russian and Italian from Oxford University Anoushka has been writing songs since the age of 14 and has been described as “an exceptional voice and a great songwriter” (Jamie Cullum, BBC Introducing 2017).

Her debut album, Dark Soul, was produced by Martin Terefe (Jamie Cullum, KT Tunstall, Martha Wainwright) and was released in July 2019.

Anoushka began writing music for theatre shortly after meeting playwright Ché Walker. Their first collaboration, Klook’s Last Stand/The Ballad of Klook and Vinette opened at London’s Park Theatre before being picked as a finalist at the NAMT Festival in NYC, leading to numerous staged productions across the United States. Anoushka and Che went on to collaborate with Olivier-Award winner Sheila Atim to create The Etienne Sisters, staged at Theatre Royal Stratford East.

In 2018, Anoushka composed 8 original songs for Sparks, a new play by Jessica Butcher, which went on to win Best Musical of the Fringe at Edinburgh Festival and was subsequently adapted for BBC Radio 4.

Anoushka began her career as an actor playing Mary Magdalene in “Jesus Christ Superstar” at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2016. Following on from this, she has appeared in plays and musicals at The Bush Theatre, The Gate Theatre, The Donmar, The National and The Young Vic.

Anoushka wrote her debut play “Elephant” across the pandemic. It premiered at The Bush Theatre in Autumn 2022. Following a sold-out run in the studio space, Elephant returned to the main house at the Bush Theatre in 2023.

To date Anoushka has been nominated for an Olivier Award (Oklahoma, 2023, Best Actress in a Musical), an Evening Standard Award (Most promising playwright, 2023) and a Black British Theatre Award (Best Supporting Actress, 2021). She was the recipient of the Best Writer award at the 2023 Stage Debut Awards.
