Vanessa Williams is an American actress and singer who has starred in a number of successful Broadway productions. She is best known for her roles in Kiss of the Spider Woman (1994), Into the Woods (2002), The Trip to Bountiful (2013), and After Midnight (2014). She received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in Into the Woods.
Williams began her career as a singer, winning the Miss America title in 1984 before pivoting into a successful career as a singer and actress.
Williams made her Broadway debut in 1994 in Kiss of the Spider Woman, playing the role of Aurora. She received critical acclaim for her performance, and won the Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut.
In 2002, Williams starred as The Witch in the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods. Her performance was praised by critics, and she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical.
