William Ivey Long is an American six-time Tony Award-winning costume designer for Broadway shows. He is known for his creative and innovative designs, which often incorporate elements of historical and contemporary fashion.
Long began his career in the late 1960s, designing costumes for regional theater productions. In 1970, he made his Broadway debut with the musical No, No, Nanette. He has since designed costumes for over 60 Broadway shows, including The Producers, Hairspray, Nine, Crazy for You, Grey Gardens, Young Frankenstein, Cinderella, and Bullets Over Broadway.
Long's designs have been praised by critics and audiences alike for their originality, elegance, and attention to detail. He has won numerous awards for his work, including six Tony Awards, two Drama Desk Awards, and two Outer Critics Circle Awards. He was also awarded the National Arts Award for Fashion in 2007.
