Rachel Chavkin is a Tony Award-winning American stage director, writer, and dramaturg. She is the founding Artistic Director of Brooklyn-based experimental ensemble the TEAM, and is known for her innovative and collaborative approach to theater-making.
Chavkin has directed a wide range of productions, including musicals, plays, and operas. Her most notable Broadway credits include the musicals Natasha, Pierre, & The Great Comet of 1812 and Hadestown, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical in 2019. She has also directed acclaimed productions of The Royale, Mission Drift, American Clock, and Three Pianos.
Chavkin's work is known for its immersive and theatrical storytelling, its use of music and movement, and its focus on social and political themes. She is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion in the theater, and her work often explores the experiences of marginalized communities.
