Stephen Sondheim (1930-2021), was an American composer and lyricist widely regarded as one of the greatest songwriters in the history of musical theatre. His most famous shows include A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Sunday in the Park with George. Sondheim's work is known for its sophisticated lyrics, complex musical scores, and exploration of dark and mature themes. He has won numerous awards for his work, including nine Tony Awards, eight Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Pulitzer Prize, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
